Program Overview

Youth Villages' Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. The majority of these youth attend the fully accredited schools which are located on our residential treatment campuses. The Germaine Lawrence Campus also has an accredited day school for youth who benefit from the supports of a therapeutic day school while living successfully at home or in community settings.

The Educational Administrator serves as the school principal and instructional leader responsible for managing all aspects of the school program to ensure that all students receive their required services and are supervised in a safe environment conducive to learning that meets the approved curricula and mission of the Germaine Lawrence School.

Position Overview

Supervise and manage all Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) approved programs.

Monitor and ensure compliance with all DESE requirements, including teacher licensure, waivers, program quality assurance and student records.

Oversee accurate, timely completion of all DESE and other state agency reporting requirements and forms.

Is responsible for development of and adherence to IEP and 504 process for all students.

Supervise, manage and evaluate effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the day school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the Germaine Lawrence Campus and Youth Villages.

Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

Coordinate all Germaine Lawrence campus services with the Arlington Public Schools, as well as with other relevant school districts.

Supervise, manage and evaluate all teachers, instructional staff and day school programs.

Evaluate lesson plans and observe classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials that research has shown to be effective in improving learning and child growth and development.

Oversee MCAS compliance and use results data to inform and improve instruction.

Develop and implement appropriate curriculum and the use of effective instructional materials.

Supervise, manage and evaluate Title I teachers and programs.

Conduct regular staff meetings and participate as necessary in all treatment team and IEP meetings, as well as clinical consultations.

Participate in student intakes and transition meetings.

Work with staff to develop effective means of problem solving.

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Is responsible to participate in the Manager on Duty rotation for the campus.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Perform other duties as determined by the Campus Director.

Our schools operate year-round.

Requirements The educational administrator shall either possess licensure as a special education administrator or possess all of the following:

  • License as a special educator;
  • A minimum of a master's degree in special education or a related field; and
  • A minimum of one year of administrative experience.

Experience in special education or teaching experience in a clinical environment strongly preferred Experience teaching high school students is required Experience working with at-risk youth required
