HIST 1107: Themes in the History of Africa

The History Department of Emmanuel College is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach one section of HIST 1107: Themes in the History of Africa for the Fall 2017 semester.

This course examines major themes in the history of Africa beginning with the formation of non-state societies, empires, and kingdoms prior to the 15th century. Most of the course content focuses on interactions between Africa and the outside world from the 15th through the 18th centuries, colonization of the late 19th century and nationalist, anti-colonialist, and liberation movements of the 20th century. The course concludes with a consideration of contemporary Africa.

This course will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00PM to 1:15PM. The final exam is a two hour period scheduled between December 14th to 18th.

A Master's degree in History or a related field and previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level are required. A PhD is preferred.
