Located in Brighton, BGA serves almost 500 students in grades 6-12. Teachers and Staff Members at Boston Green Academy will: Focus intensely on increasing student achievement and life opportunities for all students Embrace BGA's mission as a green and sustainable school in all classes and school-wide activities Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all our students while being part of a strong professional learning community Be committed to serving all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, in a maximum inclusion setting Position Overview: The Special Education Director is responsible for providing instructional and organizational leadership to staff at BGA who are providing services to special education students in both inclusion and substantially separate settings. The Director arranges for providing appropriate services for all special needs children in accordance with individualized educational plans; and designs, implements, evaluates and maintains a high quality program of special education services in the School with the goal of closing opportunity and achievement gaps between Students with Disabilities and their general education peers. Additionally, they are responsible for the administrative leadership of the special education department overseeing staff, the IEP process, and acting as the liaison to the admin team. Primary responsibilities of the position: Supervision and evaluation of certain special education staff members and teachers. Instructional leadership for special education service delivery, including analysis of data and development and implementation of data-based action plans Member of the BGA administrative team. Liaison between BGA and the State Department of Education on special education matters, including Tier Focused Monitoring and other compliance requirements Liaison between BGA and the Boston Public Schools special education department. Oversee and coordinate the IEP Team process at BGA with particular focus on schedule, procedures/compliance and staff expectations. Oversight of transition services for special education students. Oversee MCAS Alt process Monitor and review academic performance of special education students and implement strategies for improvement where necessary. Construct and implement professional development opportunities for staff. Family engagement with the BGA Special Education community Coordination of BGA’s SPED PAC group and support for community outreach events Qualifications-Required: Hold a Masters degree in a related field. At least five years of combined experience as a Special Education Teacher and/or Administrator Appropriate and current DESE license (Special Education Administrator) or approved DESE waiver Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Qualifications-Preferred: Track record of improving academic outcomes and closing achievement/opportunity gaps for Students with Disabilities Proven record of improving and managing special education systems Experience successfully managing teams and evaluating teachers At least three years experience with supporting severely disabled students or staff who do Familiarity and/or experience with district level Special Education responsibilities such as Tier Focused Monitoring, DESE reporting, and IDEA budgeting, among others.
