The Research Assistant l will be responsible for:Maintaining the lab’s compliance with animal research guidelines (IACUC, AAALAC, ARCH).Maintaining the mouse colony, including special care, breeding/ genotyping experimental mice, and data collection from large mouse groups.Controlling supply sourcing and ordering, communicating with vendors, and some minor computer troubleshooting.Studying metabolism and assisting Post-Doctoral Research Fellows with various projects. Working closely with one Post-Doc while supporting the others as needed. Generating data for weekly lab presentations, which are alternated with journal article presentations.To qualify, you must have:The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry or a closely related field, and some lab experience.The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.The ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.Previous experience working with mice (highly desirable), and a desire to gain in vivo experience. Experience in procedures such as blood collection, non-survival tissue collection, and IP injection. Basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques is expected, and proficiency will be examined.The Ozcan Lab uses a multidisciplinary approach that draws from molecular and cell biology, mouse genetics and physiology to understand the link between diabetes, obesity and endoplasmic reticulum stress.
