The Trainer will be responsible for delivering training content as part of MASBIRT Training & Technical Assistance to healthcare, human service, public health and other organizations across Massachusetts. Must have a strong training presence and also be able to critically examine and develop new training content as needed. Responsibilities will include conducting trainings, gathering and compiling required documentation, developing new training content and materials, contributing to the training and technical assistance team to stay current and advance goals. Will report to the Training Manager and adhere to the training guidelines set.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Training Activities:

  • Gain proficiency in MASBIRT TTA core training offerings. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of all content.

  • Maintain an up-to-date comprehensive knowledge of SBIRT and Motivational Interviewing.

  • Schedule trainings and confirm logistics with training site coordinator. Ensure clear communication to minimize logistic concerns and maximize learning for trainees.

  • Follow training curriculum as directed by the Training Manager.

  • Deliver classroom exercises and proficiency exams as developed by the Training Manager and MASBIRT TTA team.

  • Distribute and collect evaluation instruments from all trainees.

  • Document classroom attendance, collect required documentation including, CME paperwork, accreditation information, attendance lists, etc.

  • Conduct follow up contacts in person or on the phone to determine uptake of SBIRT services and determine any additional training needs.

  • Maintain regular communication with the Training Manager specifically focused on successes, challenges, areas for improvement, and areas for expansion in training offerings.

  • Complete all reporting requirements including, but not limited to, training log, in-depth training descriptions, etc.

  • Propose new training content for both live trainings and enduring materials (e.g., online modules, online resources, webinars).

  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail in planning, coordinating, and successful communication of training sessions.

  • Maintain the ability to work variable shifts to meet training needs.

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle to travel to trainings across Massachusetts.

Program Support:

  • Provide prompt and accurate reports as required by and as requested by MASBIRT TTA administrative staff.

  • Participate in training and administrative meetings.

  • Provide feedback on trainee knowledge and skills to the training team and MASBIRT TTA administrative team.

  • Develop new content and enhanced content in line with educational theory and adult learning theory/applications.

  • Contribute feedback on materials developed by the group with the goal of providing a high quality in-person or online resource.

  • Develop tools and training support materials that meet the needs of trainees.

  • Identify and maintain contact with SBIRT champions at training sites to help inform implementation models and sample workflows.

  • Work with project/support team to identify and resolve workflow or implementation issues.

  • Assist with the development of training-of-trainer materials

  • Contribute to scheduling of trainings and communicating with training contacts. Maintain up-to-date training information and schedules (training web pages, database, calendar, room reservations).

  • Research and respond to questions from all parties around scheduling issues or changes.

  • Coordinate requests for training sessions with organizational leadership based upon employee work activities.

  • Interact with training management, purchasing, order supplies and equipment, making sure to maintain an adequate inventory and timely delivery.

  • Engage in outreach to prior training sites to determine needs for future trainings and to potential training sites to market services.

  • Work on projects as assigned by the Training Manager or Program Manager/Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s in education, public health, human services or related field preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

Must have 2-3 years of training experience. Work requires the following knowledge, abilities and skills: experience with and knowledge of the principles and techniques of training and motivation; knowledge of information systems and personal computers; ability to analyze data and other information; ability to prepare written reports, studies and recommendations; ability to communicate effectively and possess superior communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of Motivation Interviewing preferable. Knowledge of unhealthy substance use. Experience leading trainings required. Must possess superior customer service and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and positively at all times.
