Temporary Special Education Teacher needed for the Fall 2017 School Year
Program Overview: Kennedy Day School Program at Franciscan Hospital for Children offers a unique combination of integrated special education, therapeutic and health services to students, ages 3 to 22, with multiple, intensive special needs and challenges. (These children are multi-handicapped, with severe developmental delays, and are medically fragile..Individual student needs in areas such as communication, mobility, motor control, vision, hearing, cognition and/or fragile health are addressed by each student's interdisciplinary team.
Position Overview: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of each annual Individual Education Program for homeroom toddler, latent and adolescent students.Assess students educational skills and needs and works with family and team members to identify appropriate learning goals, objectives, strategies, methodologies', instructional materials and evaluative procedures for inclusion students' Individual educational Programs. Evaluates student performance, providing appropriate documentation and effective communication of findings Coordinates the efforts of each students primary education and therapeutic team and acts as the central conduit of information internally among contributing disciplines.Coordinates staff schedule schedules to ensure appropriate staff to student ratio for safe and effective implementation of all School activities. Provides adequate instructional plans for substitute staff. Lifts, transports and pulls students and their equipment weighing up to 200 lbs with or without assistance; and pushes or pulls up to 40 lbs along using safe body mechanics.
Education: Bacehor's in Special Education Preferred; and a current Teaching License for Moderate or Severe disabilities in the State of MAssachusetts is required. A M.Ed with teaching License in the State of Massachusetts with current MA licensing in Severe disabilities highly preferred.
Experience: Atleast 1 year of experience with intensive special needs. Experience working with medically fragile children preferred.
