Job Description

ACADEMIC PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR, Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), to oversee administration of all academic and student programs, serving as primary resource regarding academic programs, degree requirements, and educational policies and procedures. Will join the department's education committees and oversee the implementation and coordination of its decisions, serve on the department's management team, prepare educational statistics and reports for internal constituents and outside agencies, and collaborate with the communications officer on website and educational outreach activities. Operational activities include coordinating course management, maintaining course and teaching records and evaluations, textbook management, and IAP coordination; managing the MIT Bulletin pages and educational databases; maintaining a record of faculty, instructor, and teaching assistant teaching loads and credits; managing the budget and assignments for teaching assistants; providing information to prospective students; writing print deliverables and web material related to the education program; participating in field trips and other educational activities; contributing to the continuing development and management of media resources; maintaining educational archives; advising faculty on relevant educational issues and tasks; serving as a primary resource for utilizing online resources; supervising/directing one staff member; serving as primary liaison with internal and external constituencies, including Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; advising faculty and students regarding degree requirements, career options, policies, and procedures; supervising the graduate student admissions process; overseeing freshmen advising seminars and UROP projects; and handling other duties as directed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: advanced degree with a background in science or higher education administration; at least three years’ experience in an academic environment; extensive experience with database design and management, print publishing, word processing, and spreadsheet applications; and strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
