Job Description

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DIVERSITY INITIATIVES AND MSRP, Office of Graduate Education (OGE), to manage the MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP) and be responsible for recruitment and retention activities for underrepresented minority graduate students within OGE. Will also attend conferences, campus visits, and recruiting events to share information and ideas and leverage best practices toward enhancing the academic experience and professional development of underrepresented students; and hire, train, and supervise the staff necessary to carry out relevant programs, develop orientation and training materials, implement an evaluation plan, and provide reporting.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree in science, engineering, or education preferred); minimum of five years’ direct/related experience; experience managing all aspects of an educational summer program; experience managing program budgets, hiring program assistants, serving as an employer representative at recruiting conferences/events, and supervising graduate students; experience with event planning and creating retention programming; attention to detail; ability to function in a busy environment and tolerate frequent interruptions; absolute discretion with confidential/personal information; ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment; excellent project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills; initiative; excellent judgment; familiarity with basic office equipment and software; ability to communicate effectively with a broad array of people; and ability to anticipate priorities and juggle competing demands. MIT experience and familiarity with its procedures and practices highly desirable. Familiarity with best practices in broadening participation in research enterprises and with web content development and contact management tools a plus, as is experience implementing and evaluating interventions focused on success in graduate education with an emphasis on STEM.
