Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Digital Strategies and Innovation, the Assistant Director is responsible for driving the implementation of digital initiative projects at the Harvard Library. This position plays an important role in advancing cross library/school programs and initiatives and shaping the future of digital strategies at the Harvard Library. Examples of specific projects include the redesign of the Harvard Library website and the creation of new methods for users to discover library resources, aka Game Changing Discovery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive strategic projects outlined in the Harvard Library Digital Strategy.
Provide project management for the redesign of the Harvard Library website. Includes coordinating the RFP process and contracting, managing vendor relations, keeping the project on time and on budget.
Scope, plan, and implement the game changing discovery project. Will require gathering user input and encouraging stakeholder buy in.
In collaboration with the AUL for Research and Education, facilitate creation of digital scholarship services within FAS.
Create, implement, and plan for the assessment of a plan for digital scholarship services training within the Harvard Library's professional development program.
Create and manage a formal assessment plan for use of digital resources and services. Track and report key project metrics and use them to identify, track, and resolve impediments to program's success. Engage with the UX Librarian to ensure user input is part of the assessment program.
Ensure alignment among stakeholders and contributors, and when alignment is absent, recommend revised approaches; keep both program team and management well informed of changes in scope and corresponding impact on time and budget.
Supervise the work of term librarians, consultants, and students in the Digital Strategies and Innovation unit.
Maintain strong working relationships with the repositories and units within the Harvard Library.
Coordinate internal and external communication and marketing initiatives with the Harvard Library Director of Communications; this includes writing project updates and reports for staff and external stakeholders.
Maintain horizon scans for trends and best practices around digital initiatives in libraries and museums.
Develop strategies to present new initiatives to the Library community.
Master's degree in Library or Information Science or closely related field
7+ years of relevant professional experience in research libraries, information technology, and/ or project management
3+ years of experience in planning, executing, and managing complex projects, including vendor relationship management
Strong service orientation and commitment to user service and support.
Knowledge of a library environment, preferably in an academic setting.

Excellent project management and time management skills.
