Significant experience in supervising and managing professional, graduate, and student staff in a complex and decentralized system; Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, fast-paced environment, to lead and develop a team of student affairs professionals, and to provide guidance to students, graduate interns, and staff who do not report directly to this position.

This is a residential position which requires living in proximity to campus. Housing is made available on-campus or a housing allowance is provided.

Special Programs

Oversee the summer residential program, including the supervision of the director of summer program; Manage the summer term housing and residential operations, including staffing, crisis response, residential staff training, and oversight of students who are living on campus during the summer.Oversee orientation and training for all summer-term staff, including Proctors, program directors, and other staff.

Oversee the Visiting Undergraduate Students program and Inter-Collegiate Transfer program.

Manage break-time dining programs during times when students are on campus and the student meal plan is not offered.Work closely with the College’s Dean for Administration and Finance to establish and administer programs that support students on high financial aid during school breaks when the dining halls are closed and assess the effectiveness of the programs.

Departmental Operations

Oversee department publications, website and other communications.

Lead efforts across OSL departments to develop information technology to strengthen program and house operation and gain efficiencies. Strengthen program management by implementing and enhancing IT systems to manage the following areas: housing, residential life, assessment, and student organizations.

Oversee the Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Center (QRAC) in coordination with OPRP and the Athletics department.

Serve as a member of standing committees including, but not limited to, the House Renewal Advisory Committee, the Safety Committee, the Committee on Student Life, or other committees as assigned by the Dean of Students or Dean of Harvard College.


In partnership with students and colleagues, the Office of Student Life at Harvard College cultivates an inclusive residential and campus experience that facilitates social engagement, campus involvement, intellectual curiosity, and personal exploration.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students is a member of the senior leadership team in the Office of Student Life and plays a key role in integrating student and academic life, enhancing efforts to build a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community and developing innovative and impactful programming. The Associate Dean provides vision, leadership, and strategic management for Harvard’s distinct House system comprised of 13 residential houses; and working together with the OSL leadership team, the Associate Dean has broad responsibility within student life at Harvard College to further residential efforts to promote intellectual engagement, social opportunities for students, and initiatives that educate students around issues of diversity and inclusion. The position will engage with faculty and staff to create a framework and strategy for residential education. The Associate Dean works collaboratively to provide consistent policies, protocols, and support within the houses related to crisis response, student support, facility and operational needs, the dining program, and other areas related to student and house life. The Associate Dean supervises the Director of Housing, Summer Program Directors, provides functional supervision of House Administrators, and oversees central training for House Tutors and other residential staff. The Associate Dean works closely with the House teams, including building and dining managers, on issues related to the student house experience. The position oversees planning within the Office of Student Life and serves as a primary liaison with parents and faculty.

Provide strategic leadership and management for the Housing and Residential Life program and operations with 4900+ undergraduate residents and 12 Houses and the Dudley Co-op. Serve as primary point of contact with Faculty Deans on issues related to housing and residential life;

Serve as central OSL and College oversight for overall housing operations and policies. Develop and oversee departmental policies and procedures. Serve as primary point of contact for all residential operations. Plan for enrollment fluctuations and implement overflow solutions.

Support and serve as the back-up for the Dean for Admin and Finance in planning for capital renewal of the Houses. Oversee swing housing, and support implementation of and communication regarding all aspects of Harvard College’s House Renewal program. Provide timely advice as issues arise about preparation for and execution of each renewal project.

Serve as the primary partner to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Office of Physical Resources and Planning (OPRP) and Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS) for the Houses and House Grilles and other specialty spaces and functions in the Houses, including specialty House spaces, art rooms, and gyms.

Coordinate with Freshman Dean’s Office and the Local Emergency Management Team on all housing-related issues.

Serve as the College’s primary partner with Harvard’s Transportation Services to coordinate campus shuttle services and monitor the effectiveness of shuttle service in addressing students’ needs for convenience and safety.

Maintain effective communication and working relationships with Harvard University Police (HUPD), Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT), Office of Physical Resources. and Planning, and House Renewal.

Residential Education

Develop and implement central Tutor training program for 350 resident Tutors, working together with Faculty Deans, Resident Deans, and House Administrators. Partner with the OSL leadership team and Office of Undergraduate Education on specialty tutor training.Review and assess the selection, training, and evaluation of Tutors.

Oversee all Housing and Residential Life Programs and in particular collaborates with key campus partners to ensure appropriate oversight and supervision of program spaces and policies. Work with House Administrators to administer funding for house-based initiatives.

Oversee new and innovative opportunities for House-based programming within the context of the Houses’ reimagined spaces. Provide updates on House programming to the House Renewal Executive Committee.

Student Support

Assist students with academic, personal, social, and health issues and make referrals to appropriate on and off-campus offices and support services. Communicate with other Dean of Students staff regarding student issues and individual student concerns.

Assist the Dean of Students with urgent situations; triage and stabilize situations, resolve student and parent concerns, and coordinate the notification of the appropriate individuals in accordance with College policies, guidelines, and professional judgment.
