Job Description

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS/DIRECTOR OF MULTICULTURAL RECRUITMENT, Admissions Office, to develop strategies and programs to enroll well-matched, underrepresented students of color. Will report to the director of admissions and serve on the admissions leadership team and as a senior admissions officer. Will lead the multicultural recruitment team, supervising two professional admissions officers; and foster strong relationships with key partners, including community-based organizations throughout the country, MIT multicultural student and alumni/ae groups, and partner offices at MIT including the Office of Minority Education (OME) and Office of Engineering Outreach Programs (OEOP). As a full member of the admissions selection committee, will review and select undergraduate applicants with a full admissions caseload. Other duties include several weeks of national and local travel to do student outreach and meet with alumni/ae, welcoming prospective students and their families to campus, and assisting in other recruitment and yield activities as needed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and at least five years’ experience working in college admissions, multicultural student affairs, or a related field. Experience working with multicultural students and their families is essential, as are strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate around sensitive issues. Must have experience with staff supervision and project management within a complex organization charged with multiple priorities and objectives. Regular evening and weekend work required during the academic year, as are several weeks of travel by air annually.
