About the Job
The Engineering Learning team is growing and Akamai is looking for an experienced Instructional Designer with proven experience delivering technical eLearning courses and training courses to software developers and other technical staff to drive new hire productivity and continuous education within the Akamai Engineering community. In this role, you will plan, analyze, design, develop, and evaluate learning solutions for Akamai Engineering technical staff.
About the Team
The Engineering Learning team is a cross functional team consisting of technical writers, technical trainers, instructional designers, event planners and more. We produce learning solutions and knowledge-sharing opportunities that provide engineers with the information they need to quickly acclimate to the Akamai development environment and maintain the highest standards of quality when designing and building highly reliable and scalable systems.
Reports to the Content Development Manager and works closely with the EngLearn team’s Product Line Managers to deliver to the EngLearn roadmap.
Collaborate with members of the Engineering Learning team to determine training needs, design proposed solutions, and develop training programs to meet the needs of the engineering function.
Under guidance from Manager and PLM, create new and update and improve existing online courses, instructor-led courses, and interactive labs and workshops directed at the Akamai Engineering technical staff.
Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts to identify what students need to learn.
Develops objectives and ensures content matches those objectives.
Provides learning activities and strategies that will engage and motivate the learner to further develop knowledge and skills.
Develops course content from scratch.
Manages content review process, validating learning objectives and course effectiveness.
Manages the timing and content for ongoing refresher training.
Adapts instructional materials created for one format to another format.
Measures effectiveness of learning materials.
Maintains up-to-date training schedules for assignments.
Ensures presentation of training is consistent.
Develops subject matter expertise in assigned technical area and maintains in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of subject matter.
Work collaboratively with EngLearn team members from all functional areas when planning, developing, delivering and evaluating learning solutions to ensure EngLearn provides world-class content that exceeds the Engineering audience expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree or degree emphasizing technical knowledge or communication skills in related field (e.g., computer science, engineering, journalism or English)
2+ years work experience with solid career progression in the field of technical training or instructional design, including significant experience in designing and delivering training solutions in large organizations
2+ years of overall experience in an Engineering organization.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent public speaker at ease moderating large groups.
Self-sufficient, self-starter with proven success taking ownership of training projects.
Experience applying adult learning principles as well as the ability to recognize and adapt to different learning styles.
Experience working with Learning Management Systems.
Experience with Articulate Suite or equivalent
Experience with program management.
Exposure to software development, coding, and scripting.
Experience conducting needs assessment and analysis.
