Position Description

The Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) offers a unique interdisciplinary environment for teaching, research, and clinical activity. HSDM is seeking qualified candidates interested in faculty positions at the rank of instructor, assistant professor and associate professor in the fields of dentistry and oral health. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty can also provide clinical care, conduct research and/or perform other administrative duties. Clinical disciplines include, but are not limited to, Dental Public Health, Endodontics, General Practice Residency, Geriatric Dentistry, Implant Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, and Radiology. HSDM’s research focuses on the areas of skeletal biology, musculoskeletal-disease research, and the pathology of bones, joints, vascular and connective tissues. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications, in the appropriate academic department based on successful candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidates may be expected to teach in the School’s Pre-Doctoral and/or Advanced-Graduate curriculum, engage in clinical practice with the Faculty Group Practice and/or pursue research and scholarly activities.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must possess a doctorate. For clinical roles, candidates must possess a DMD or DDS degree from a CODA accredited dental school and be eligible for dental licensure in Massachusetts. For research roles, candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent in a related discipline.

Additional Qualifications

For clinical positions, specialty training, board eligibility or certification, experience in teaching and interest or experience in research is preferred. Further qualifications include excellent clinical skills to practice productively in the state-of-the-art Harvard Dental Center. For research positions, independent research experience, creativity and independence, relevant lab experience, and excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
