Provide recommendations for the use of financial resources.Core Duties:

  • Oversee such pre-award areas as: funding, searches, proposal submission, document tracking and reporting

  • May act as signatory for the University, to endorse, negotiate, and/or accept grants and awards

  • May function as a subject matter expert and/or project lead

  • Evaluate pre- and post- award research administration procedures, recommend improvements

  • Perform complex post-award activities including award approval and set up, analysis and reporting and long range financial planning

  • Provide technical advice for and problem resolution for a school/unit financial community on research administration

  • Act as the department representative at the School/University level

  • Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable federal and sponsor rules and regulations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored research regulations

Additional Responsibilities:As department leader, the Senior Sponsored Research Officer (SSRO) brings to the position extensive experience with the grant-making cycle and the ability to design, implement and monitor workflow processes and procedures. The SSRO will also be responsible to helping to build internal competencies and confidence of the grants managers within the department.

The Senior Sponsored Research Officer is responsible for providing technical expertise for both pre- and post-award grants management in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal communication skills. The SSRO will partner with the faculty on applying for potential funding opportunities. She/he will review all pre-award submissions prior to signoff by department manager. She/he will interpret and advise research staff and Faculty on university, federal and sponsor policies and guidelines relating to research administration. She/he will be responsible for generating and providing pre- and post-award financial metrics and analysis to Faculty and department managers. She/he will have signing authority for department standard grants and subcontracts. She/he will work in the department leadership to develop and implement departmental grants management training and coordinate the training of new hires, including documentation and implementation of departmental best practices. She/he will serve as direct supervisor for 2 business office staff members.
