Job Description

SENIOR ADVISOR TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR, to support the vice chancellor in developing and executing his strategic plan to transform the student academic experience at MIT. Will provide ongoing progress updates (analytics and other outcome-based measurements), benchmarking, and best practices; direct communications and outreach activities; liaise across relevant schools, offices, and DLCs; build a strong, bold, full-engaged community among students, faculty, and staff through empowerment and alignment; engage with students and departments to develop and pursue a roadmap for enhancing the first-year student academic experience; partner with community members to improve student areas such as advising, professional development, diversity and inclusion, and well-being; implement the residential education innovations called for in the Institute-wide Task Force on the Future of MIT Education; and work with the staff from under/graduate education to conduct an organizational review that positions them to support the above efforts and optimize services for students and faculty.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in communications or related field; minimum of seven years’ experience working in external relations and/or communications; higher education experience, particularly advancing new pedagogies and novel frameworks; media relations and outreach experience; sound strategic-thinking and consulting skills for guiding organizations toward workable strategies and solutions; experience understanding and articulating opportunities for engaging a framework of activities and strategies designed to improve visibility and rankings of institutions; advanced short- and long-range planning, program and project management, facilitation, and collaboration skills; experience collaborating with strong leaders with diverse opinions/interests to achieve synthesis of ideas and action; and ability to build and maintain relationships with the broad range of faculty, students, and staff in a university community.
