The Pharmacy Practice Residency is a twelve-month stipend-based program designed and structured to provide the organized health care practice community and the pharmacy profession with knowledgeable, creative, and resourceful practitioners who can provide direct patient care services in an institutional practice environment. It supplements an academic pharmacy education and provides the opportunity and necessary stimulus for graduate pharmacists to develop their knowledge and expertise in the provision of pharmaceutical care. The program is flexibly designed to accommodate the training needs of Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) graduates through required and elective rotations. The resident will also learn how to interact effectively with the multidisciplinary members of the health care team including social workers, nurses, therapists, etc..
The Pharmacy Practice Residency program will enable the resident to further develop their skills and competency in the pharmacy practice areas of acute patient care, drug information and drug use policy development, ambulatory patient care, and health-system pharmacy management. Teaching skills in both the didactic and experiential training setting will also be developed through interaction and mentoring of Doctor of Pharmacy students. This residency program will provide a foundation for further training in a specialized residency or fellowship.
