South Middlesex Opportunity Council Program Director Head Start Satellite in Union Ave Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

The Head Start Satellite Director and Mentor/Coach is responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of the Satellite Head Start programs. The director is responsible for ensuring that a safe and nurturing environment is always maintained for the children. The director is responsible for the direct supervision of all the Satellite staff. The position also includes mentoring/coaching at the larger centers as needed. Needs will be determined by Division Director, Director of Educational Services, Center Directors, and results of ongoing assessments such as ECERS, CLASS, etc.

  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the operational and fiscal activities of the program/department to include staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.

  • Maintain facility and program operations, EEC Licensing visits, Head Start Monitoring Visits, Health and Safety checks of all classrooms and playgrounds.

  • Payroll

  • Recruit, manage, develop, and evaluate staff by providing timely mentoring, training, and performance management. Complete required paperwork in accordance with company policy.

  • Enroll on a rolling basis Head Start children into the classrooms in partnership with the Senior Managers of the Head Start team.

  • Help center directors with I/T enrollment as needed to ensure capacity in I/T childcare rooms.

  • Prepare and maintain children and staff files to meet all Head Start Performance Standards, EEC Licensing and QRIS requirements and standards.

  • Directly supervise, monthly observe all teaching staff in the Satellites (Lead Teachers, Teachers, and Asst. Teachers).

  • Maintain CLASS certification or obtain within 180 days.

  • Monitor classroom paperwork and perform monthly feedback on lesson plans, newsletters, action plans, and assessments.

  • Monitor attendance and attendance supplements and follow up when needed.

  • Facilitate and document Monthly Staff meetings.

  • Regularly attend and participate in Senior Manager Meetings, Head Start Services Meetings, and School Readiness Meetings.

  • Monitor and attend, when necessary, classroom Center Staff Meetings.

  • Facilitate and attend Individual Child/Family meetings.

  • Maintain and update QRIS levels.

  • Update and Implement UPK and QRIS grants as they become available.

  • Coordinate with Family Services Manager and maintain Community Engagement.

  • Maintain connections and communication with Public Schools and other facilities used by the Satellite Head Start Classrooms. Including any applications, permits, etc.

  • Ensure a safe environment for children at all times.

  • Coordinate health, special education, mental health services, family and nutrition/food services with other managers.

  • Ensure educational and paper products are ordered, maintained, and delivered to satellites.

  • Work with Directors on coaching and mentoring classroom staff in the larger centers as needed to support quality and best practice in their day-to-day operations.

  • Consistently maintains adequate CLASS scores for all classrooms.

  • Supervision of children is a priority.

  • Mandated Reporter.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BA Degree in Early Education or related field preferred

  • EEC Director ll certified preferred

  • Thorough understanding of EEC licensing regulations, Head Start Standards, state QRIS and NAEYC accreditation requirements.

  • Previous management experience in Early Education Setting

  • Bilingual preferred

  • Preference in hiring given to past or current Head Start parents.

  • COVID vaccine is strongly encouraged.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Directly reports to the Child Care/Head Start Division Director.

  • Direct reports of this position are the Satellite staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical exam by physician every two years

  • Negative TB screen

  • First Aid Certification

  • Child CPR Certification

  • Valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, and good driving record.

  • Be able to walk around centers, walk up and down stairs, bend, sit on the floor, lift up to 25 pounds, move quickly in the event of an emergency.

WORKING CONDITIONS

As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Satellite and IT Director will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
