Assistant Dean of Inclusion and Engagement, Graduate School
The Graduate School (https://www.umass.edu/gradschool/) Office of Inclusion and Engagement seeks an Assistant Dean to begin January 2021.
Reporting to the Dean of the Graduate School, the Assistant Dean for Inclusion and Engagement will work with administrators, faculty, graduate students and staff to develop and oversee programs that promote diversity, inclusion and engagement at all stages of graduate education. The Assistant Dean will serve as the director of the Graduate School's diversity programs in STEM and non-STEM fields, coordinating recruiting efforts with college-level administrators and other institutions; coordinating diversity fellowship nomination, review and selection processes; programming and attending events for fellowship recipients. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for collaborating with the Graduate School's Office of Professional Development and other campus partners to develop programming that promotes graduate student leadership across the disciplines and supports student efforts to communicate their research to academic and non-academic audiences. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Dean of the Graduate School to identify areas for programming expansion and will also participate in the review and assessment of current programs. Candidates for this position must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with top administrators as well as with students. Candidates should be knowledgeable about best practices for promoting diversity and inclusion in graduate education and should be comfortable overseeing program budgets. The Assistant Dean will join a highly collaborative leadership team and will be responsible for representing the Graduate School with strategic internal and external partners. Infrequently, this position will require night or weekend work and travel as well as access to a vehicle.
Master’s Degree with at least one year of experience at an academic institution in which the candidate employed best practices to promote diversity and inclusive mentoring in graduate education. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills, with demonstrated effective leadership skills.
PhD. Experience supervising diversity-related programs at an academic institution.
This is a non-unit staff position and salary is commensurate with education and experience.
