The College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) invites applications for tenure-track faculty at the Associate and Assistant Professor levels from computer scientists whose research applies a computational lens to challenges from other disciplines. Exceptional candidates at other ranks may be considered. This position is part of a new initiative to develop a top-quality informatics program based on our highly-rated computer science program and our significant interdisciplinary collaborations such as the Computational Social Science Institute and the Center for Data Science.
Candidates are expected to help build a nationally recognized research group and provide leadership in the formation of a new informatics program in the college, including developing and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. We are accepting applications in all areas of interdisciplinary computer science research, but have the strongest need for individuals in bioinformatics, health informatics, computational biology, computational social science, information retrieval, and information visualization.
Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or a related area and should show evidence of exceptional research capability. A record of applying computer science in another discipline is strongly preferred.
Starting Date: January 20, 2019 or September 1, 2019. Other start dates (i.e. Spring 2020) may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
