Job Summary

Member of the department’s senior management team. Responsible for the overall creating, maintaining, and monitoring of a compliant environment that results in clear institutional control of all athletic programs relative to Conference and NCAA legislation as required by NCAA Division I membership. Further responsible for assisting coaches and student-athletes for 21 programs and approximately 600 student-athletes in interfacing with University, Conference, and NCAA offices. Supervisor of several intercollegiate sports.

Essential Functions

  • Member of the Department’s Senior Management Team:

  • Assists the Director of Athletics in formulating department policy.

  • Advises the Director of Athletics on various department matters.

  • Provides information to the Chancellor’s Office and Board of Trustees as requested by the Director of Athletics.

  • Consults with the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) on appropriate Conference and NCAA issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Governance and Compliance:

  • Implements, controls, and monitors procedures such as but not limited to: athletic recruiting; eligibility of student-athletes; athletics personnel; awards and benefits; financial aid; and playing seasons for adherence to NCAA regulations.

  • Coordinates a pro-active, comprehensive and dynamic NCAA rules education program for the University faculty, staff, coaches, boosters, and student-athletes.

  • Coordinates the NCAA Coaches’ Certification exam.

  • Interprets NCAA and conference rules.

  • Monitors the distribution of athletics aid by the University’s financial aid office and the Bursar’s Office.

  • Monitors the preparation of all NCAA and conference compliance forms and reports.

  • Responsible for all aspects of all waivers and appeals to the NCAA.

  • Reviews all possible NCAA rules violations and resolve all determined violations through appropriate sources.

  • Monitors the verification of student-athlete eligibility.

  • Represents the University at NCAA and conference meeting concerning institutional compliance issues.

  • Serves as the primary liaison to Admissions for all circumstances deemed special consideration.

  • Responsible for all aspects of all admissions appeals.

  • Sport Administration:

  • Serves as the Sport Program Administrator for assigned sport programs

  • Provides leadership with goal setting, personnel and performance management, budget planning and monitoring and overall program support

  • Responsible for assisting with the Department’s Strategic Plan efforts.

  • Responsible for heading the Department’s NCAA and Conference certification efforts.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution.

  • More than five years of compliance experience in the NCAA Office, a Conference Office and/or in intercollegiate athletics required.

  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics.

  • Ability to foster and maintain working relationships with coaches, staff and members of the University community.

  • Ability to successfully complete the administrative tasks of the position.

  • Ability to interpret complex oral and written concepts.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of three to five years of compliance experience in the NCAA Office, a Conference Office and/or in Division I intercollegiate athletics.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Typical office environment activity.

Additional Details

The position is typically for three years, with the possibility of reappointment.

Work Schedule

Monday- Friday, 40 hours per week.

Evenings, weekends and holidays may be required depending on the demands of the position.

Salary Information

Salary commensurate with experience.
