Job Summary
The Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning (LARP) Communications and Technology Manager advances department goals by creating and producing web, print, digital and social media communication, and providing or coordinating technical support for faculty and staff, and classroom/lab equipment. This position reports to the Department Manager and works collaboratively with the Department Chair, staff, faculty, students and other community members.
Essential Functions
Conceptualize and plan department communications initiatives collaboratively with the Chair, SBS Director of External Affairs and Communications, and University Relations. Manage communications by using a variety of electronic platforms including web channels/tools and social media.
Research, develop and write news stories for web and print publication, which may include photos and/or video content. Write, design, edit, produce and distribute electronic and print newsletters and other informational communication for faculty, students, and alumni.
Manage the content of the Departmental websites. Responsible for ongoing development and upkeep of the websites with fresh, dynamic, and timely content. Promote programs and events in social media platforms.
Coordinate with faculty and staff on the development and distribution of communications related to events, including alumni outreach, graduations, conferences, and workshops. Support the Graduate and Undergraduate Program Directors to communicate academic, co-curricular, experiential, and professional development information to students.
Provide or coordinate IT support or guidance for faculty, staff and other instructors. Maintain or coordinate the maintenance of computer labs and digital plotters/printers. Update departmental resources and workshops on digital technology and programs.
Coordinate with other Design Building academic units on technology, and collaborate with the Design Building Technology Committee.
Assist other staff with event planning and execution as required. Serve as back up to other department staff, and perform related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience.
Experience in website management and social media communication.
Excellent design and graphic skills, including ability to use Adobe Creative Suite.
Excellent writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly develop and sustain productive relationships with variety of internal and external constituents.
Strong initiative and excellent time and task management skills, with high-level attention to detail and quality.
Understanding of the potential of, and best practices in new and existing technologies to advance the goals of the position.
Willingness to learn computer technology and software used in landscape architecture or design fields including, AutoCAD, GIS, or related software.
Capability to work successfully as part of a team of technical and non-technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Degree in Landscape Architecture or Regional Planning.
Experience with photography, video production, and video editing.
Experience with HTML, CSS, and Drupal.
Experience working with multiple computer systems in a networked client/server environment, including printing and plotting technologies.
Experience managing social media campaigns and content creation, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or other social media tools in a professional setting.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Must be able to stand for 1 – 2 hours for event video/ photography assignments.
May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
