Job Description
The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts is looking for exceptional teachers in computer science and informatics to join our growing Teaching Faculty. We encourage applications in all areas of computer science and informatics, but are particularly interested in faculty who can teach courses in introductory CS, math foundations, theoretical CS, software engineering, and HCI. Applicants who are interested in part-time employment should apply via this posting. Applicants who are interested in full-time employment should go to cics.umass.edu and apply via the full-time posting.
We are looking for individuals with a commitment to teaching, who are willing to work collaboratively with our other faculty in the teaching and tenure tracks to develop and continuously refine our curricula. It is expected that the person holding this position will remain with the college long-term.
As part of a public, land-grant institution, CICS is dedicated to “Computing for the Common Good.” Given our continually growing and increasingly diverse student body, we encourage applications from women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and individuals with a commitment to mentoring historically marginalized demographics in computer science.
Initial appointments will be for 2 years at the rank of Lecturer, though highly qualified candidates may receive consideration for these openings at other ranks (Senior Lecturer or Senior Lecturer II). Lecturers may be promoted to Senior Lecturer or Senior Lecturer II after sufficient time in service, meritorious performance, and promise of continuing professional development and achievement. After four years of full-time equivalent service, teaching faculty are also eligible for a continuous appointment.
This is an academic-year appointment with teaching responsibilities for 9 months of the year. Full-time teaching faculty typically teach five courses per year at the undergraduate or graduate level and have service obligations. Part-time teaching faculty will be assigned a proportional workload and may teach classes at either the undergraduate or graduate levels. Opportunities for teaching additional summer courses may be available for additional compensation. While there are no required research-related duties, research activities are highly valued.
Requirements
Before starting in this position, applicants must hold an MS or PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field, with a PhD strongly preferred. Applicants must also have a strong commitment to, and proven track record of, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in computer science or a closely related field. A prior research record in Computer Science or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
Additional Information
Starting Date: Spring 2025 or Fall 2025. Other start dates (e.g., Spring 2026) may be considered.
When a prospective faculty member indicates an interest in seeking employment for a spouse or partner, UMass has a Partner Employment Program in place to support these dual career families. Although UMass does not guarantee job placement, efforts are made to help secure a position for spouses or partners. For more information on our Partner Employment Program or other faculty benefits, please seehttps://www.umass.edu/prospective-faculty/work/balance.
Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Inquiries and requests for more information can be sent to:facrec@cs.umass.edu.

Your cover letter should also include a statement addressing your past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and/or service.
Current and previous UMass employees applying for this position should expect that their past teaching, advising, and service contributions will be reviewed as part of their application.
