Perform research on the evolution of flower development in the grasses, under the guidance and supervision of the Principle Investigator.
Examples of duties:
Comparative genetics inBrachypodium distachyon,maize, and other grass species, identifying and dissecting the function of floral developmental genes.
Molecular characterization of gene and protein function.
Analyses of trait and gene evolution in the grasses.
Mentor undergraduate researchers in the lab.
Preparing manuscripts associated with the project.
Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- PhD in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Work will be conducted in the research lab, greenhouse, maize genetics nursery at the UMass farm, and in a typical office environment.
Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Occasional weekends as required during our summer and winter field seasons
40 hours a week, 100% FTE.
Salary will commensurate with experience.
