Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Center for Counseling and Psychological Health (CCPH). Post-Doctoral Fellows receive advanced training and supervision in psychological assessment, with a heavy emphasis on the evaluation of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and, to a lesser extent, Learning Disabilities. Post-Doctoral Fellows are expected to complete twenty assessments during the training year. Fellows also provide psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students who may experience a broad range of emotional, psychological, personal, and/or academic difficulties. Fellows' participant in the on-call rotation. Clinical case supervision is provided for psychotherapy and psychological assessment by licensed psychologists. Fellows will participate in weekly staff and clinical meetings, as well as various seminars and workgroups. May perform other duties as formulated by the director. This is a 12-month position.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts psychological assessments for ADHD and Learning Disabilities, including administration, and scoring of various assessment instruments, interpreting test results, and writing integrated assessment reports.

  • Presents assessment results to clients and discusses recommendations.

  • Provides psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students that present to CCPH.

  • Develops client case load. Makes referrals as appropriate.

  • Documents client contacts and maintains client records.

  • Attends weekly supervision with clinical case supervisor.

  • Attends weekly supervision and receives didactic training with assessment supervisor.

  • May be involved with Consultation and Education/Outreach activities. May provide psychotherapy groups and/or psychoeducational workshops, which may be some evenings.

  • Consults with external referral sources and with campus referral sources around treatment planning and referrals as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Doctorate in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology and completion of a pre-doctoral psychology internship.

  • Demonstrated competence in psychological assessment, to include the administration, scoring, and interpretation of cognitive and personality measures. This experience must extend beyond the classroom and include practica and/or internship responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to write psychological assessment reports that are Integrative of both personality and cognitive measures.

  • Knowledge of current counseling and psychotherapy models (empirically supported treatments).

  • Commitment to promoting diversity and developing multicultural competence.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Knowledge of developmental issues of college students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and professional staff.

  • On-call shifts require evening, weekend, and holiday availability.

  • On-campus applicants are defined as Amherst campus non-student employees.

    Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

  • Participates in the on-call rotation, providing 24-hour crisis and on call coverage in person and via phone/pager. Shifts require evening and sometimes weekend/holiday availability.

Salary Information

  • Salary Determined Annually.

  • Position starts mid-August and lasts one year, following the academic calendar.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Must submit with application two (2) sample psychological assessment reports. The reports should be integrative of both cognitive and personality measures. Must also submit with application, one (1) clinical intake which must include a history of presenting problem, social and developmental history, and a case formulation. The reports and intake should be de-identified.
