In this home-based position, in the western region of the United States, serve as an active participant in undergraduate student recruitment, selection and yield activities in order to meet institutional goals.
(50%) Recruit a highly qualified and diverse pool of high school students (domestic and international) to apply to the university by developing and implementing effective recruitment and outreach plans.
Participate as a member of the First-Year Admissions team.
Review and analyze multiyear demographic and enrollment trend reports and work with the Senior Staff to plan and implement targeted recruitment activities in a defined geographic region, primarily the western U.S. (CA, WA, AZ), with additional territories assigned, as needed. Participate in debriefing exercise to assess the success of recruitment and outreach efforts. Help identify new ways of reaching out to and gathering contact information on prospective applicants.
Represent the university at career and college fairs, community and high school recruitment presentations, and special recruitment and yield events. Convey key institutional messages to prospective applicants and parents. Serve in a public relations and information role with prospective applicants, their parents and high school counselors. Demonstrate how the university can help meet prospective applicants’ academic and career goals.
Cultivate professional relationships and serve as the university’s primary admissions contact with guidance counselors, independent counselors, agency representatives, community-based organizations, and other influencers in the region. Serve as liaison to on-campus departments and off-campus organizations to help increase the number and quality of applications.
(35%) Help ensure the admission of a highly qualified first-year class by serving as an active participant in the evaluation and selection process.
Read, in a holistic approach, first-year applications (domestic and international) to determine admissions eligibility by evaluating academic and non-academic credentials based on MBHE criteria, evaluating the differences among secondary schools, etc.
Make admission decision recommendations on applicants who clearly meet university holistic admission review criteria and applicants who clearly do not meet admission criteria. Analyze, make recommendations, and participate in the holistic decision-making process on candidates whose applications need further review.
(15%) Support the overall work of the department.
Read transfer applications for domestic applicants when necessary.
Participate in virtual information sessions.
Serve as liaison with designated academic program or colleges and coordinate special programs as assigned.
Assist with selected special events/projects (e.g., admitted student weekends and visit days, high school counselor tours, receptions, etc.).
Involve current students and key student organizations in recruiting, as appropriate.
Help identify long-term recruiting goals, strategies, and innovative ways to recruit talented students from the defined geographic region.
Collaborate in the development of promotional and marketing efforts, publications, etc.
Keep abreast of pertinent developments at the university, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Bachelor’s degree at time of hire.
A least one year of admission experience as a professional.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the undergraduate experience at a major research university.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with high school students, their families and college counselors in a variety of settings, to speak and write clearly and persuasively and to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. Must be sensitive to multicultural and socioeconomic issues.
Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 12-14 weeks per year, and the flexibility to work on weekends and evenings as needed.
Ability to work remotely with access to reliable high-speed internet.
Ability to read and holistically analyze applications, high school transcripts, recommendations, etc.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to prioritize, and to achieve goals and objectives.
Knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Valid driver's license and proof of insurability.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Previous experience with a student information system, preferably Technolutions Slate and PeopleSoft.
Incumbent reports to Associate Director of First-Year Admissions Recruitment.
Performs duties within established policy guidelines.
Responsible for a defined set of assignments.
Expected to determine and create the necessary procedures to meet specific goals and objectives.
Monday – Friday 8:30 to 5:00PM. Some evening and weekend work are required. Travel is required.
