Job Title: Financial Analyst - Grants
Job Summary: The Financial Analyst (FA) is integral to managing research funding, working closely with researchers, the Office of Research Administration and Finance, and the College’s administration. As part of the Administrative Resource Center (ARC) at the College of Engineering (COE), the FA provides financial and compliance analysis and post-award administrative support to COE’s Principal Investigators (PIs), department chairs, and administrative staff. This role can be fully remote or hybrid.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor expenditures, analyze spending rates, and perform projections for PIs’ funding portfolios to assist with expenditure and payroll forecasting. Regularly meet with PIs to review expenses, projections, and the overall status of research funds.
Ensure compliance with sponsors’ and institutional policies governing grants, contracts, and internal awards. Escalate compliance issues to the PI and the Associate Director of Post Award Administration.
Generate monthly financial reports, facilitate annual payroll/effort certifications, and review financial reconciliations. Submit necessary accounting adjustments, such as journal entries and payroll distribution changes.
Collaborate with PIs in submitting grant-related prior approval requests, including no-cost extensions, re-budgets, advance account requests, and closeouts in accordance with sponsor guidelines.
Analyze processes to improve workflow and efficiency, plan for better faculty satisfaction in managing funded portfolios, and provide training opportunities.
Participate in departmental and institutional meetings and trainings, providing feedback and ideas. Seek professional development opportunities to enhance subject matter knowledge.
Act as a liaison between the College of Engineering, the Office of Research Administration and Finance, and other units, promptly communicating relevant information and administrative steps.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong customer service focus.
Knowledge of accounting and finance, with the ability to work with budgets.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
Advanced experience with MS Office (Excel) and Adobe Professional, and the ability to quickly learn new software programs.
Attention to detail, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to stay current with regulatory requirements and institutional policies/procedures, keeping faculty PIs and department leadership informed of changes.
Confidentiality in handling sensitive information related to salaries, department finances, and scientific data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three or more years of professional work experience in higher education or a similar business setting.
Bachelor’s degree in business or finance.
Familiarity with federal grant administration.
Experience in a similar department-level position.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
