Job Description

The Assistant Director for Nursing Continuing Education & Accreditation is a 21-hour per week position with benefits. The Assistant Director is responsible for nursing continuing education program development, including assessing educational needs, designing new programs, as well as evaluating existing continuing nursing education activities. This position is accountable to assure adherence to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Accreditation Program Criteria in the provision of continuing nursing education. This position will report to the Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Provost.

Program Assessment, Evaluation and Development:

  • Assesses current nursing continuing education programs to determine if they are still relevant, ensures faculty evaluations are strong, course descriptions and learning objectives are appropriate, etc.

  • Designs and develops new nursing continuing education offerings based on current market needs

  • Helps to recruit instructors for nursing continuing education programs, when needed

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to instructors with course descriptions, criteria to fulfill learning objectives of course, the course outline, and course evaluations

Accreditation:

  • Serves as lead Nurse Planner of the Nursing Continuing Nursing Education Program/ Provider Unit with authority to administer the provider unit in accordance with all ANCC Commission on Accreditation criteria

  • Responsible for anything related to accreditation/re-accreditation reporting, communication, etc.

  • Orients staff and faculty to the ANCC accreditation criteria to ensure that they are all in compliance

  • In collaboration with the rest of the Nursing Continuing Education staff, maintains overall responsibility for record keeping of program offerings, and for management of data and reports necessary to maintain accreditation status

Internal and External Relationships:

  • Collaborates with faculty and administrative personnel within Boston College as well as health professionals at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels to develop continuing education programs that best suit the needs of professional nurses and other health professionals

  • Maintains a close working relationship with multiple groups and resources including officers and representatives from professional nursing organizations, national education societies and organizations, and clinical experts to assist in the determination of educational needs and to facilitate professional support for the Continuing Nursing Education Program.

  • Collaborates with the Connell School of Nursing and other departments, colleges, schools, institutes, medical education companies, and professional groups to develop grant proposals and seek outside funding support to plan and provide continuing education programs.

In collaboration with the rest of the team, the Assistant Director of Nursing Continuing Education & Accreditation will work to develop a strategic plan and goals for the Nursing Continuing Education/Provider Unit. The Assistant Director will also actively teach in the program as part of this position and perform other duties as assigned.

Hiring Salary for Part Time Equivalent: $41,256 - $51,570; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

The Assistant Director must:

  • Have a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing

  • Have a graduate degree in nursing or business or a related field

  • Be licensed as an active unencumbered registered nurse in Massachusetts

  • Possess a general understanding of higher education, knowledge of the role of continuing education within institutions of higher learning; and current competency in nursing professional development practice

  • Have familiarity with the health care delivery system, education of health professionals and current issues in those fields

  • Have expertise in adult learning theory, curriculum development, instructional technology, and evaluation methods

  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities, creativity, the ability to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback

Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in nursing continuing education curriculum development

  • Experience teaching in nursing continuing education programs
