Suffolk University invites qualified candidates to apply for our Assistant Director of Transfer Admission opening. Reporting to the Managing Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission, this full-time position works as part of a dynamic admission team responsible for the recruitment and admission of undergraduate transfer students to Suffolk University. The Assistant Director of Transfer Admission will be involved in a range of on and off campus recruitment activities including community college visits, special events, counselor meetings and applicant interviews. The incumbent will predominantly be responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of transfer applicants, as well as issuing credit evaluations for admitted students. The candidate will play an integral role in planning and implementing strategic initiatives for transfer enrollment. This position also serves as an advocate for transfer students across campus. Additionally, the incumbent may also be involved in recruitment activities for freshmen.

Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Represent the University at college fairs, transfer programs, veterans programs and visits to community colleges; review transfer applications and issue credit evaluations; assist with freshman recruitment and file review as needed; other duties as assigned. The incumbent will travel/recruit approximately 10-12+ weeks between the fall and spring semesters, (including hosting area receptions and yield events). They will be responsible for coordinating extensive transfer recruitment programs at regional and national community colleges and conducting off-campus interviews with students and families as requested. Demonstrated ability and understanding of the mission of the university’s urban location and the unique opportunity this presents for prospective students. Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm about the University, has a strong work ethic, exercises sound judgment, and is skilled at public speaking and writing. Ability to communicate professionally with a variety of different internal and external audiences.

  • The Assistant Director of Transfer Admission is responsible for the timely and accurate evaluation of transfer applicants. Evaluates traditional and non-traditional courses and issues credit evaluations using a digital-based application system. The incumbent will issue admission decisions and recommendations for honors consideration or special financial aid merit programs in accordance with University parameters. Questionable cases are referred to the supervisor. The incumbent will also help with second-reading applications for entry-level staff, as well as training them on transfer file review. Counsels applicants, their families, guidance counselors, and transfer advisors on Suffolk University’s admission policies and procedures and the financial aid process. Assists with maintaining the Transfer Credit Eligibility Lookup. Will complete extensive follow up on transfer prospects, applicants, and admitted students.

  • Assists the Managing Associate Director of Admission on the planning and implementation of Transfer On-Spot Decision Days and transfer-specific events. Helps set the strategy for application generation and yield of transfer students. Assists with reports on current trends in transfer admission. Assists Managing Associate Director with establishing strong relationships with community colleges. Participates in regional professional associations and chapters to build partnerships between Suffolk and these organizations.

  • Assists the Associate Directors/Campus Events Manager by coordinating and implementing applicant yield activities such as Information Sessions, Suffolk Showcase, and area receptions in select markets. Assists Associate Directors in coordinating admission activities for newly accepted students such as advising, retention, orientation and course registration.

  • The candidate will assist the Director of Admission and Associate Directors in the onboarding, training, and mentorship of entry-level staff members including Admission Officers, Admission Counselors, and operations team members. Other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in college admission and recruitment, preference given to those with transfer experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Requires travel as well as evening and weekend work.

  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.

  • Strong time management and ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - ability to speak publicly in front of small and large audiences.

  • Ability to engage and network with prospective applicants, families, transfer advisors, and secondary school counselors.

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to work a rigorous schedule and maintain flexible hours and travel on behalf of Suffolk

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on group projects.

  • Strong creativity and innovation; willingness to try new approaches to achieve desired objectives.

  • Proficiency with technology including Word, Excel, CRM systems (preferably Slate), social media, etc.

  • Valid drivers’ license.
