Colleges of the Fenway Assistant Director, Undergraduate Admission, Multicultural Recruitment - Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission, the Assistant Director is responsible for the recruitment and counseling of prospective undergraduate students from different multicultural backgrounds and underrepresented populations. With a specific focus on multicultural students, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, the Assistant Director will be responsible for managing specific geographic territories. From assessing applications to making critical and thoughtful admission decisions, the Assistant Director will apply strategic thought towards creating an impactful and inclusive campus community. The Assistant Director will participate in recruiting events, both on and off campus, and contribute and assist with special projects.
Recruitment and Counseling:
Recruit, evaluate and counsel first year students, and sometimes transfer students, from the prospect stage through their enrollment;
Serve as primary application reviewer for assigned territory or territories and assist others in their review as needed, including, but not limited to, significant file reading, evaluations, and facilitating data and information for decision recommendations;
Develop appropriate communication channels to contact students, families, and counselors to motivate and assist students advancing through all points in the admission funnel;
Identify key priorities and needs of individual students and develop customized approach and communications to influence their decision to enroll;
Identify and develop new opportunities and entry points in the prospect funnel with the goal of increasing the enrollment of qualified first year students;
Travel to college fairs and high schools to speak with prospective students, parents, high school counselors.
Assist in developing and organizing on and off campus events that support the recruitment, enrollment and success of students from under-represented backgrounds;
Liaise with other members across the organization, including, staff and faculty, that currently support multicultural student success;
Establish and maintain effective partnerships with community-based-organizations (CBO?s) supporting the college search and college access for under-represented students.
Contribute and/or have oversight of special projects within the Office of Undergraduate Admission related to recruitment and travel, application review, events, community outreach and engagement, campus partner collaboration initiatives;
Other special projects as assigned.
Bachelor?s degree required;
Minimum 1-2 years of work experience;
Work experience in an admissions office environment, either as an undergraduate student or professional preferred; other experience may include work in other higher education functions, high school counseling or sales;
Valid U.S. Driver?s License required;
Ability to travel approximately 10-12 weeks in the fall and 4-6 weeks in the spring, or respective travel as assigned otherwise. Travel may be regional or national, and is not restricted to the established territory of the counselor (specific assigned territories and/or populations may be changed year to year at the discretion of the admission leadership team);
