Boston University ASSISTANT MANAGER, OUTDOOR PROGRAMS, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Rock Wall Operations in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Assistant Manager of Outdoor Programs within the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance will assist the Manager of Outdoor Programs in managing all operations and programming at the Barreca Climbing Wall, Sailing Pavilion, Pro Shop, and Outdoor Gear Rental and all other outdoor trip and recreation programs offered. Duties will include: equipment inspection and maintenance; creation, development, and enforcement of rules and regulations; hiring, training, and supervision of instructional and operational climbing and outdoor staff; program development, revenue generation, marketing, budget development, and administration; teaching and leading programs as necessary.

The Assistant Manager of Outdoor Programs is a leadership position responsible for contributing to an inspirational vision for outdoor programs. This requires an individual to be well-informed of current and emerging trends in the industry that will meet the needs of our students, members, faculty, and staff. Required Skills

  • Knowledge of and experience in various outdoor activities including but not limited to waterfront and indoor rock climbing; leadership experience; experience in teaching/facilitating groups of varying ages/abilities/demographics; risk management; strong judgment and safety awareness; drivers license and willingness to obtain certification to drive a 12p van.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Communications, Education, Science, or related field Preferred Education: Masters Degree in Outdoor Leadership, Recreation Management, Tourism, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related field

  • Wilderness First Responder or higher level of certification Leave No Trace Level 1 or Level 2 Instructor or a willingness to obtain the certification

  • Experience with program management software

  • Climbing Wall Instructor certification

  • Other applicable skills and certifications
