The Communication & Journalism Department at Suffolk University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning July 1, 2019 (pending final budgetary approval).This position is in Media/Film, with a specific focus on the current status, character, and influence of news/journalism in a rapidly changing media environment.Applicants must have relevant professional experience and a terminal degree in the field (Phd. or MFA) in hand by July 1, 2019. Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in investigative video journalism, documentary filmmaking,or other non-fiction production.Preferred background includes expertise in Avid Media Composer and Adobe Suite.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate both teaching excellence and scholarly/professional potential. Teaching responsibilities include a variety of courses in the Media/FilmMajor, such as research methods, media and film criticism, and video production; we are especially interested in candidates who are able to teach courses that help forge additional connections between the Media/Film and Journalism majors in the department. Teaching opportunities also include the potential to developcourses for the cross-college curricula, including Seminar for Freshmen and Creativity & Innovation.Service to the department and the University through committee membership and student advising is also required.
