Boston University’s College of Fine Arts invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Costume Design, non-tenure-track, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.
CFA’s School of Theatre is a prominent beacon for the arts in New England. With accomplished, award-winning alumni (including actors Jason Alexander, Geena Davis, Julianne Moore, Alfre Woodard, and Ginnifer Goodwin); five dedicated theatres, including the stunning state-of-the-art Booth Theatre; 40 faculty who are actively engaged in the profession of theatre-making, CFA’s School of Theatre is widely recognized as one of the premier theatre programs in the nation.
Required Skills
The successful candidate will teach in the School’s MFA and BFA Costume Design Area and advise students on projects and productions. Applicants must possess a strong background in design, a knowledge of contemporary training and techniques for the 21st century designer, a willingness to work with a collaborative spirit among a team of faculty with diverse approaches, and a proven ability to teach advanced design courses. Ideal applicants will also have significant national professional experience as a costume designer. The ideal candidate will teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, fostering critical study, creative practice, and provocation in the classroom and beyond. Applicants must hold a terminal degree and/or have a significant record of professional accomplishments in the field. We are looking for candidates with strong skills in collaboration and communication, as well as professional networks to help bridge classroom experiences and the profession. Prior teaching experience is desirable.

Minimum Requirements:
Terminal degree or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments in the field
A record of professional accomplishments that merit a professorial rank appointment at Boston University
Evidence of supporting, teaching, and/or mentoring emerging artists in the classroom and the field
Evidence of successfully promoting an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion
A commitment to shared governance
A dedication to collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
