Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies , Tenure Track

The Program for Environmental Science and Studies within the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environment, and Physics ( BiCEP ) and the Department of Biology at Suffolk University invite applicants for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Studies. The Departments are interested to recruit a teacher-scholar with a research focus on environmental justice, resource use/planning, and/or sustainability to teach in our interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program.

Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential including a research agenda and plans for peer-reviewed publications and applications for external funding that include opportunities to engage undergraduate students in research . The Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies position includes responsibility for helping our undergraduate majors with senior capstone projects and Independent Studies, and will be the “face” of the environmental studies major in terms of research opportunities for students. Candidates should be broadly trained to teach environmental studies, research methods for environmental studies, and environmental justice courses as well as upper-level ecology ( lecture and lab ) all of which are housed in either BiCEP or Biology but serve students in a variety of disciplines.

Faculty who teach in the Environmental Studies and Environmental Science program come from a variety of disciplines and departments across the College of Arts and Sciences including Chemistry /Biochemistry , Biology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, the Humanities and Art & Design. Many of the students in the program are actively engaged in the Environmental Club which organizes a variety of events throughout the academic year. Environmental Studies and Environmental Science faculty collaborate with colleagues from Fudan University to organize and host the Urban Ecological Security and Sustainability conference annually which draws environmental activists, policy makers and researchers as well as faculty and students. Faculty and students in the program take advantage of our location in the heart of Boston on the frontlines of global environmental change and problem solving to participate in broad research and other professional opportunities.
