Boston University Associate Professor of the Practice, Media Innovation and Management, College of Communication in BOSTON, Massachusetts
The Department of Film and Television at Boston University’s College of Communication is seeking an Associate Professor of The Practice in Media Innovation to join our vibrant faculty. We are looking for an experienced media professional, producer, entrepreneur, and/or educator with a deep understanding of how technology has changed the way content is created, consumed, and distributed, and how media brands are emerging and competing in a rapidly changing digital economy.

The Department of Film and Television offers undergraduate and graduate courses in television, film, and digital media that cover producing, screenwriting, media business entrepreneurship, film and television studies, production, and management. The Department offers several master’s programs including an MS in Media Ventures, which focuses on media innovation. The instructor would teach undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on emerging media businesses, products, and platforms.
An advanced degree and teaching experience at the university level is preferred but not required if professional experience is exceptional.
Significant professional experience, leadership, and achievement in media/entertainment production, innovation and entrepreneurship, content development and/or product ideation and development.
The instructor would teach courses in topics such as innovation and entrepreneurship, how to bring new ideas to the market, how the media industry is evolving, strategies to promote online brands and increase revenue, and producing content for multi-platforms, etc. The instructor is also encouraged to suggest and create courses based on their area(s) of expertise.
Duties require teaching three courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels (graduate courses are within the Media Ventures program and the MS in Television program)
Thesis advising – this position requires working 1:1 with graduate students on Media Ventures thesis projects throughout the program year (September – July)
Collaboration with the BuildLab, the University’s central innovation hub, to help organize pitching events and other showcase opportunities for students including identifying mentors as well as mentoring students who are pursuing media-related ventures
