Working with the Associate Provost for Academic Innovation, the Chief Academic Technology Officer analyzes and implements strategies to enhance academic programs through the innovative use of technology, works with faculty to understand the teaching/learning environment, reviews technological options related to teaching needs with faculty, and prepares faculty to use new academic technology and software applications.
Work with the Associate Provost for Academic Innovation to promote the integration of technology in teaching and learning. Work with program heads to analyze academic technology needs with respect to teaching and learning within their units and to plan next steps. Develop process for the selection of academic technology and software, working with the Associate Provost for Academic Innovation and the Chief Information Officer. Construct an annual academic technology plan in concert with the University Strategic Plan, the Academic Master Plan, and the University Technology Plan. Develop and provide workshops and demonstrations designed to engage faculty and staff in the use of technology into their courses and programs. Develop pilots for relevant hardware and software applications. Develop media recording production capacity for faculty, along with provision of necessary training. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Instructional Support, Director of Faculty Development, and Online and Educational Technology Librarian to support the virtual Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL). Develop and support an Academic Technology Advisory Group. Track software/technology acquisition in each of school and major program. Develop communication strategies for informing academic community about academic technology solutions. Follow-up on implementation of new software in terms of ongoing use and effectiveness.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required: Master?s degree in Education, Instructional Technology or related field Minimum of 10 years of experience with design & development of technology-based courseware including the following: Minimum of 3 years related experience in higher education working with faculty and staff Experience planning and implementing large-scale IT projects and meaningful experience with higher education academic, research, and administrative activities Strong supervisory and project management experience with the ability to manage a complex multi-layered organization required Experience working in a production environment including Web and video based instructional material Demonstrated progressive experience in applying formal methods of application development including project management and project planning Demonstrated progressive experience in presentations to diverse audiences Excellent verbal and written communication competence Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with people of all levels of expertise and comfort in varied organizational relationships Ability to travel between campuses in Boston, Worcester, and Manchester, NH
