Colleges of the Fenway Chief Marketing Officer - Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts
The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will play a critical leadership role in Wentworth Institute of Technology's ongoing work to become nationally recognized as the university of choice for externally collaborative, project-based, interdisciplinary culture for learning (EPIC). The CMO will oversee major initiatives to bolster the university's reputation, garner regional and national visibility, and generate revenue. Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the CMO will serve as the university's chief marketing and branding officer, responsible for the strategic direction of Wentworth's marketing, branding and communications efforts.
In this role, the CMO will have direct responsibility for the creation, execution and management of a comprehensive branding program that effectively communicates Wentworth's unique differential advantages and its position as leader in private higher education across the full spectrum of university stakeholders. Additionally, she/he will lead the effort to ensure that the Institute's brand messages and standards are communicated and consistently enforced across all university entities - including its colleges, departments, divisions and programs.
The CMO will play a vital role in the creation of a high-functioning, integrated communications and marketing organization. As such, she/he will work closely with the VP and other senior staff members across the university to create a progressive, unified, results-oriented organization dedicated to serving the university's interests and those of its students, faculty, staff and alumni and other key stakeholders.
The CMO will have direct management or general oversight responsibility for team members responsible for the creation of a full range of content designed to enhance Wentworth's reputation, including the web and digital media staff and communications staff. The CMO will work collaboratively with the VP of Enrollment Management and the Provost and Academic Affairs leadership to develop a coordinated and integrated enrollment marketing plan that reflects efforts in undergraduate, graduate, professional and non-traditional education programs.
The CMO will be an accomplished and collaborative marketer and communicator with a track record of working effectively in a decentralized higher education environment. The CMO will be a superb storyteller in his/her own right with an ability to quickly understand the unique Wentworth culture and educational advantage and help shape the university's story in ways that resonate both with members of the Wentworth community and outside stakeholders.
The CMO must be adept at managing creative professionals as well as in the financial management of a marketing/branding/communications operation. A mastery of the analytical tools used to determine the effectiveness of marketing programs - and an ability to communicate the ROI of such work to leadership - is essential.
The CMO also will serve as a senior leader on the Wentworth campus and as such must possess a keen understanding of the issues facing higher education today and a passion for the mission of this institution.
