Boston University Clinical Assistant Professor of Science Education, Wheelock College of Education and Human Development in Boston, Massachusetts
The Department of Teaching and Learning within the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a full-time position as Clinical Assistant Professor in Science Education to start on July 1, 2024.
We seek candidates whose work expands the methodological and/or theoretical perspectives of the Science Education program, with a focus on the teaching, learning, or curriculum of elementary and secondary science and engineering education. The successful candidate will have experience teaching secondary education level science and will be able to teach science methods and practicum courses in the Science Education graduate program, as well as STEM education courses in the Education and Human Development undergraduate major. Further, they will demonstrate a background in research, and the interest to develop a research agenda related to the preparation of teachers. They will also demonstrate an active engagement in professional organizations.
The Science Education program area is one of nine program areas in the Teaching and Learning Department, one of four departments in the College. Faculty members at Wheelock teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses, advise students, and provide service to the college, university, and profession. We are seeking colleagues who collaborate with faculty across the College and University, as well as serve as a mentor for graduate students in the broader Department/College Science Education program. Additionally, in line with the BU Wheelock Guidestar, the clinical faculty member will be expected to participate in program and course development that will attract and retain a diverse student body, and broadens the coursework and scope of the programs to meet the goals of Wheelock’s strategic plan.

Teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses related to science education, especially science education for teachers.
Supervise graduate students in teaching practicum placements.
Mentor students (undergraduate and graduate) in science education research.
Disseminate research findings to science teacher educators and educators in K-12 schools through written publications and meetings of local and national education associations.
Be an engaged citizen in providing service to the department, college/university, professional organizations and the profession.
This position begins 07/01/2024. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
D. or Ed.D. in Science Education or related field.
Minimum three to five years of experience in Science Education (at any level).
Experience conducting and disseminating education research.
Teaching and supervision experience in higher education.
Experience as a mentor of graduate and undergraduate students in science education.
Experience in PreK-12 settings.
