Boston Day & Evening Academy A Horace Mann Charter School CFC - Career Exploration Program Coordinator School Year 2022-23 Boston Day and Evening Academy (BDEA) is seeking an extraordinary CFC - Career Exploration Program coordinator to work in our school. BDEA is an innovative public high school whose mission is to serve students who are overage for grade level, many of whom have experienced life challenges that have impeded their education. Working with experienced faculty in an environment that blends strong academics and support, students are given the opportunity to earn a Boston Public Schools diploma and to reach their fullest potential through a competency-based curriculum that inspires critical and creative thinking, independent learning, and active citizenship. As a competency-based school, BDEA does not have grade levels. Our extended program, beginning at 8:00 am and running until 4:30 pm serves students with different academic needs up to age 23, including those who are being promoted from middle school without being academically prepared for high school; those who have dropped out of high school and have decided to return to earn a diploma, and those who are unable to attend regular school hours due to health issues, full time work and/or full time parenting obligations. The school employs 60 full and part-time staff to work with 405 students and is governed by an active Board of Trustees. All employees of the school are expected to uphold the mission of the school to build a consistent, unified, anti-racist, inclusive community that stimulates greater student agency, engagement, and academic achievement. The CFC- Career Exploration Program Coordinator will lead the coordination and expansion of a robust BDEA career exploration program that excites and engages the diverse and talented BDEA student body. We are looking for a staff member who is committed to working with our students, who understands the lives of urban youth and who has a track record of working successfully in a collaborative professional learning community. Responsibilities Career Exploration Program Coordinator Work collaboratively with Instructional leader, Director of Operations and Head of School to coordinate BDEA’s career exploration program. This includes: Work with Instructional leaders to identify and hire highly qualified part-time staff or partners to teach courses at BDEA, Coordinate and expand student engagement in after school programming either onsite or with external partnerships (ie: academic support, spoken word performances, art partnerships etc), Ensure BDEA’s career exploration course offerings meet requirements of BPS MassCore course offerings Collaborate with Instructional Leader to create a trimester career exploration course schedule that meets needs of student interests and integrates with academic courses, Work with BDEA advisors and students to ensure courses are filled, With support of Instructional leaders, lead quarterly professional development workshops for on-site career exploration instructors, Conduct weekly observations of career exploration courses and provide real-time feedback to career exploration teachers, Create opportunities for student feedback on instruction and course offerings, Coordinate with career exploration instructors opportunities for students to showcase student work through art exhibitions, performances, spoken word events etc. Monitoring career exploration staff bi-monthly timesheets, ensuring the are submitted correctly and on time to Director of Operations, Work with summer school coordinator to support the implementation of garden and career exploration courses during BDEA’s summer academy, Work with Director of Operations to monitor budget spending for career exploration courses Work with Data and Accountability Manager with management of assessment and data requirements of career exploration programs. Support School Advancement Work in collaboration with the Advancement Director to support school communications by overseeing the school's social media footprint and website and supporting external publications with content generation, photography and contributing to quarterly newsletter. Support social media by serving as a school photographer at school events. Perform other related duties as determined by the Head of School to assure smooth school functioning. Terms: BTU- CFC, Full-time (40 hrs) As a Horace Mann Charter School, teachers and staff are paid a competitive salary in accordance with the Boston Public Schools. As a condition for employment, BDEA staff are required to sign an Election To Work Agreement (ETWA) annually, which details the terms and conditions for the work year at the school. While the school generally follows the BPS calendar, it requires additional planning time before, after or during the year, as agreed upon in the ETWA. CFC hours are from 9:00 – 5:00 pm with 30 min lunch undisturbed. However, hours may vary according to student needs. Program, department and committee meetings, and professional development take place on Wednesday and Friday generally between 1:30pm and 3:30pm Qualifications Required: Associates degree or higher preferred Tech-savvy in various computer applications:database, web design programs, social media etc. Knowledge and comfort in the use of social media (Twitter, Facebook) Have excellent communication and organizational skills; Bilingual Spanish, Creole, other: a strong plus Acute attention to detail and project completion Strong and tested ability to participate effectively on teams; have collaborative management style Passion for coordinating multiple “moving parts” (logistics, schedule, people, etc.) Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment Be able to interact with young people and their families in a respectful and caring manner Adhere to BDEA’s Non-Discrimination Policy (see below) A sense of humor!
