The College of Engineering at Boston University has embarked on a bold new strategic plan to pursue excellence and societal impact along convergent and collaborative research themes in a representative and inclusive environment. The College has been nationally recognized for its commitment to diversity by the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The Departments of Biomedical Engineering (BME), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and Mechanical Engineering (MechE) have multiple openings for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor. Although we will consider all candidates whose work matches the research themes of the departments, these searches will focus in particular on the following convergent themes:
Novel Device Technologies Applied to Predictive, Digital, and Personalized Medicine. We seek a candidate who develops and exploits breakthroughs in biosensing or medical imaging and takes advantage of AI/ML methods to improve human heath. The ideal candidate would form a bridge among efforts in BME, ECE, and the Division of Systems Engineering.
Cellular Engineering and Manufacturing. We seek a candidate whose interests are in cellular therapeutics for applications including immunoengineering, regenerative medicine, and bioprocessing. Candidates would likely form bridges between BME and collaborative departments and centers including MechE and the University’s National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratory.
The College of Engineering is ranked 16th among private universities, with all of is individual programs ranked in the top 20. BU BME is a top-10 ranked department overall and 7th ranked among private institutions. BME is one of the largest departments in the nation, with 38 tenured or tenure-track primary faculty. We attract exceptional graduate students and faculty talent at all levels and have strong ties to the BU School of Medicine, as well as other top medical research centers in the Boston area. Research activity by primary BME faculty is over $30M per year and well over $50M when affiliated faculty are included. Candidates must hold a PhD in an appropriate area, have postdoctoral experience, and show potential for leading an independent, vibrant, world-class research program.
