The Opportunity

PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeksa Curriculum Lead for a highly complex and excitingEnglish Language Arts(ELA)curriculumdevelopmentprojectfora major urban district.The project provides motivated individuals a unique opportunity to support educators and students in actualizingtheNext Generation Learning Standards for English Language Artsby creatingcustom curricular content that is centered around culturally relevant and sustaining texts, themes, and instructional practices.TheELACurriculumLead will overseethe content team, includinglead writers andwriters,throughtraining, drafting,and revisionprocessestoensure the overall coherence of thegrades 6–12curriculum.TheELACurriculumLeadwill supportthecontent teamthrougha highly creative, iterative, and collaborative development processtoproduce lessons that are rigorous, engaging, and meaningful to students.Specific responsibilities and skill/experience requirements are detailed below.

This is afull-time,remote role, with occasional in-person meetings.Some travel may be required.The start date isJanuary 2023, with the possibility of an earlier start for candidates with availability.

PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line workswith states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews.

Project engagements have included the development of theEngageNYgrades 6–12 English Language Arts curriculum for the New York State Education Department and the delivery ofrelatedimplementation services across several states; the design and delivery of a system of a K–3 professional learning program for the Connecticut State Department of Education; and the creation of training and resources to support standards implementation for the Florida Department of Education. We recently collaborated with Chicago Public Schools (IL) to develop a full-year, standards-aligned digital curriculum for PK–12 English Language Arts and mathematics and are providing asynchronous and synchronous professional learning to teachers and administrators to support implementation. Currently, we are also developing a K–5 ELA curriculum in partnership with Pinellas County Schools (FL) to support their transition to the new Florida B.E.S.T standards.We are also partnering with the Texas Education Agency to develop and/or reviseseveralcurricula to respond to stakeholder feedback, including K–12 Reading Language Arts, K–6 Spanish Language Arts, K–5 Mathematics, K–5 Social Studies, K–2 Spanish Skills, K–5 Science, and K–5 Integrated (Science, Social Studies, Reading Language Arts).

Responsibilities

The Role

The Grades 6–12 ELA Curriculum Lead will:

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of instructional and technical specifications and oversee adherence to the specifications that will be documented inproject requirements.

  • Provide leadership forcontent teaminthe implementation of instructional and technical specifications, as well as overall quality assuranceand on-time delivery of deliverables.

  • Developmodeldeliverables that comply with specific design criteria.

  • Support lead writers in the formal reviewofdraft deliverables andmodel,providingactionable written and verbal feedback forwritersto apply.

  • Provide supervision and support for lead writers.

  • Work closely withproject leadership,6–12ELA content leadership,and client content teamin arapid development process, includingcoordinating workflowwhere their involvement is requiredand engaging them in quality assuranceto ensure alignmenttoclientexpectations.

  • Collaborate with project team to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of thegrades K–12curricular resources.

  • Partner with the K–5CurriculumLeadto ensure consistency of approach (as appropriate) and share best practices for reviewing and providing feedback on grade-level deliverables in support of their lead writers.

  • Collaborate with projectmanagement andoperationsteamsto ensure that established processes and structures are appropriately implemented.

  • Identifyand act uponopportunities to improve processes, operations, and client services.

  • Haveavailabilityduringthe regularwork week, with some night or weekend work as needed.

Qualifications

Required /Desired Experience

  • Five or more years teaching experience in K–12 public school setting

  • Deep content knowledge inEnglish Language Artsas evidenced by years of teaching, advanced degree,and/orother relevantexperience (preferablydistrict-level experience)

  • Experience writing standards-based curriculum atmiddleand/or high school level

  • Experience teaching diverse learners, including EnglishLearners and students with disabilities

  • Previous team leadershipexperience of 3 or more years

  • Experience developing curricular resourcesfor use by other teachers

  • Familiarity with Google Drive

  • Experience with digital learning instructional design (Preferred)

  • Familiarity with the Hidden Voices initiative, as well as the Expeditionary Learning and HMH Into Reading curriculum products (Preferred)

  • Mastersdegree or higher or equivalent experience

Compensation

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $53,876 - $125,000.
