THIS IS A SUMMER POSITION. EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The OMME 5-Week Academic Enrichment program helps English/multilingual learners improve their language skills and reach their full potential. Our program is carefully crafted to cater to the unique needs of students with varying levels of English proficiency, enabling them to focus on specific aspects of language development, including reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Our interactive and engaging language-rich learning activities are designed with a project-based learning approach that fosters a supportive and enjoyable environment for students to practice and refine their language skills. The program features a comprehensive academic curriculum that includes Math and ESL/English Language Arts, ensuring that cognitively demanding tasks and grade-level complex texts are accessible to multilingual learners. In addition to academics, our program also offers a diverse range of enrichment activities, including STEM, Arts, Leadership Building, and Physical Fitness, tailored to the needs of English/multilingual learners entering 1st-12th grades. Position Summary: This is a summer program coordinated by OMME in order to support ML acceleration in English language acquisition and development. Teachers hired are expected to adhere to the vision and mission of OMME, which is to provide a culturally and linguistically responsive education with the support needed to ensure equitable access to opportunities that promote language acquisition, bilingualism, biliteracy, and lifelong learning. The OMME is seeking paraprofessional applicants who have educational experience with EL students to provide classroom support to ESL/Math teachers entering grades 1st-12th grades. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Support classroom teachers in utilizing curriculum resources to develop, organize, and present ESL and/or Math lesson plans, assignments, and enrichment activities tailored to EL students. Utilize data effectively to inform ESL and/or Math instruction and assist in organizing student grouping strategies. Assist classroom teachers in administering assessments and monitoring students' instructional needs at the beginning, during, and at the end of the program. Maintain accurate and punctual records of student attendance and progress, supporting classroom teachers in this aspect. Assist teachers in implementing differentiated instruction to address diverse learning needs, especially focusing on EL students. Provide personalized support and intervention to small groups or individual EL students as requested by classroom teachers. Act as a co-teacher alongside classroom teachers, offering both instructional and operational support to ensure the smooth functioning of the classroom environment. Facilitate the dissemination of relevant and timely data to students, families, Site Coordinators, and the OMME Program, while also maintaining data management for OMME purposes. Qualifications Required: Possess a High School Diploma or GED Possess at least 48 credit hours of advanced coursework, or a college degree Associate, Bachelor, Master, or other graduate work Demonstrated experience working with English Language Learners, Students with Interrupted Formal Education, and/or English Language Learner Students with Disabilities. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Fluency in English and a second language preferred Bachelor’s Degree preferred Pursuing a Master’s Degree and or teacher certification preferred The successful candidate should possess a minimum of one year of experience as a paraprofessional, with a focus on working with English Language Learner (ELL) students. They must demonstrate strong classroom management skills and a proactive approach in collaboration with both the classroom teacher and the Site Program Coordinator as needed. The primary role of this paraprofessional is to foster a learning environment that nurtures the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and cultural development of each child. Program Delivery: Fully In-Person Program Dates: Monday, July 8, 2024, to Friday, August 9, 2024 Hours:The standard workday consists of 5 hours, with additional preparation and planning time required based on specific site needs. For instance, program hours may span from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm or 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Job duties may entail planning and preparation outside of instructional hours. Terms: Schedule: Pre-Summer: Scheduled planning meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities, along with separate on-site planning sessions coordinated by the site management team. During Summer: Work hours will be determined by the specific site. Please refer to the site-specific job description for details. Post-Summer: Some "wrap-up" responsibilities, such as compiling student progress reports and conducting curriculum inventory, will occur immediately following the conclusion of summer learning programming. Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Site-specific job requirements, program hours, and training schedules are to be determined by the EL Summer Learning Academy program. Agreement to site-specific terms is required for hire. Payroll will be processed on a biweekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets in accordance with the BPS summer payroll schedule.
