Penn Foster Full Time Construction and/or Automotive Mechanical Skilled Trades Instructor - Math Focus in Boston, Massachusetts
The Construction and/or Automotive Mechanical Skilled Trades Instructor is responsible for providing instructional support to ensure students meet the established learning objectives and supporting the growth and development of the program to comply with industry standards and the needs of the community. The instructor will support students in Skilled Trades programs including but not limited to Construction, Plumbing, AutoCAD, Automotive, HVAC, Carpentry, and others.
The Construction and/or Automotive Mechanical Skilled Trades Instructor provides one-on-one instructional support to include responses to student’s inbound academic inquiries using distance education technologies, including phone, email, SMS text messaging, and portal messaging to ensure student learning and successful completion of the program. The Instructor will offer daily office hours for tutoring via an appointment scheduling tool and provide substantive feedback on subjective exams (if applicable) within Trades programs and courses. The Instructor will support the creation of student resources including but not limited to webinars, videos, and learning resource materials. The Instructor will conduct outreach using distance education technologies to provide academic advising and support to ensure student learning and successful completion of the program. The instructor provides instructional support for the Skilled Trades Programs as well as college level Math courses as needed.
The Instructor will participate in curriculum design, including development and revision, and in the development of any supplemental learning resources. This is a remote position with limited travel.
Essential Job Functions:
Review, evaluate, and suggest program curricula changes and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business, industry, and higher education
Provide technically accurate academic support across various crafts to online students via phone, chat, e-mail, discussion board post, text, appointment scheduler, live and recorded webinars, and exam evaluations/feedback
Review program and course-level outcomes data and surveys to determine students' needs; provide data-driven interventions/outreach as needed
Provide academic support and advising to students to include but not limited to using distance education technologies, appointment scheduler, live and recorded webinars, and feedback and evaluations on exams, assignments and externship skills
Perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must have a minimum Bachelors level degree in Math or a closely related discipline and 3-5 years of field experience within skilled trades. Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge and expertise in various Skilled Trades fields including but not limited to Construction, Plumbing, AutoCAD, Automotive, HVAC, Carpentry, and other trades related areas required. Must have experience teaching college level math. Must be able to relate math to solving trades related situations/problems. Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience in skilled trades recommended.
Must have compassion for students learning at a distance who have many competing priorities. Must have excellent computer skills, ability to think quickly, communicate effectively and efficiently, and enjoy being part of a team. Previous experience in a fast-paced work environment is a plus.
