SCHOOL YEAR: 2024-2025 POSITION TITLE: Instructional Coach of Career and Technical Education The Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers (EMK) seeks an exceptional Instructional Coach of Career and Technical Education (CTE) who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. Kennedy Academy is committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools. Kennedy Academy is a Horace Mann In-District Charter High School. It is a college preparatory and vocational high school for Boston students exploring careers in health and health-related professions. The Academy provides a supportive learning environment that promotes respect and embraces diversity. Students will attain the life skills needed to become productive and positive members of society. Kennedy Academy is an excellent place for those who seek to work in an environment that supports their creativity and innovation and respects their skills and abilities as an educator. In addition, over the next five years, Kennedy Academy will double in size, add new health career pathways, and expand college course offerings and work-based learning. These will lead our graduates toward access to good-paying careers at Mass General Brigham. These changes result from a transformative $38 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies, which marks the largest philanthropic investment in BPS history. REPORTS TO: Head of School The Instructional Coach of Career and Technical Education (CTE) plays a critical role in supporting the professional growth and development of CTE teachers and Health teachers to enhance the quality of instruction and student outcomes. This position involves providing targeted coaching, mentoring, and professional learning opportunities to CTE educators to improve instructional practices, curriculum delivery, and student engagement. The Instructional Coach works closely with the Executive Director of CTE, CTE and Health teachers, EMK administrators, and other stakeholders to promote excellence in CTE programs and ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices. Teacher Support Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to CTE and Health teachers to improve their instructional practices, classroom management, and student engagement strategies. Coaching and support for EMK CTE staff members, especially career-changing health professionals, to become excellent teachers, with a focus on curriculum planning, lesson planning, classroom management, teaching to standards, student assessment, and competency monitoring. Monitor and manage all educator licensing issues for CTE teachers Curriculum Development Collaborate with CTE and Health teachers to design and refine CTE curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessments that align with industry standards, academic requirements, and student needs. Supervise selection of curriculum materials for all CTE pathway programming 9-12 Facilitate effective curriculum planning and collaboration between MGB and Boston EMS partners and EMK teachers Professional Learning Plan and facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, and training sessions for CTE teachers on topics such as project-based learning, assessment strategies, technology integration, and industry trends. Lead or coordinate professional development activities with EMK full staff related to CTE programming Lead or coordinate professional development activities for workplace partners who will host EMK students in clinical practicum experiences Participate in all professional development activities, including weekly meetings focused on implementation coordination, problem-solving, and coaches' professional development Data Analysis Analyze student performance data, assessment results, and instructional practices to identify areas for improvement and inform coaching interventions and professional learning activities. Supervise the use of a competency monitoring system and the use of related data by all teachers to track student progress. Model Lessons Demonstrate model lessons and instructional strategies for CTE and Health teachers, providing feedback and guidance on effective teaching techniques, differentiation, and student support. Set up effective classroom environments, assist in planning effective lessons, conduct and debrief demonstration classes, co-teach occasional classes, provide in-class coaching, including videotaping and debriefing lessons, assist in planning school-based professional development during and after school, including workshops, study groups, looking-at-student-work-and-data sessions, and peer observations. Collaborate with CTE teachers, department chairs, and administrators to develop and implement instructional plans, interdisciplinary projects, and cross-curricular initiatives. Resource Development Curate and develop instructional resources, teaching materials, and technology tools to support CTE teachers in delivering engaging and relevant instruction. Assessment and Feedback Conduct classroom observations, instructional walkthroughs, and formative assessments to provide constructive feedback and support teacher reflection and growth. Professional Collaboration Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement among CTE and Health teachers through peer coaching, lesson study groups, and professional learning communities. Provide regular informal and formal observation and feedback for all CTE teachers, both in the classroom and in work-based learning sites Complete written evaluations for all CTE staff members annually Partnership Building Collaborate with the Executive Director of Career and Technical Education and the Director of College & Career Community-Based Partnerships to establish partnerships with industry professionals, community organizations, and post-secondary institutions to enhance CTE opportunities, work-based learning experiences, and career pathways for students. Expectations Attend Superintendent BPS August Institute (August 13-15) Attend week-long EMK professional development (August 26-30) Commit to weekly Wednesday meetings from 2:00pm-4:00pm Commit to weekly meetings with the EMK Admin Team. And other duties as assigned by the Head of School Qualifications - Required Bachelor’s degree in Education, Career and Technical Education, or a related field Hold a valid Massachusetts teaching certification or licensure in a relevant CTE content area. Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in Career and Technical Education at the high school level. Strong knowledge of CTE curriculum development, industry standards, and educational technology tools. Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to NCLB. Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.Demonstrated proficiency in instructional coaching, mentoring, and adult learning principles. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to analyze data, assess instructional practices, and provide actionable feedback. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Qualifications - Preferred Prior instructional coaching experience Significant health career employment prior to becoming a teacher Licensed or eligible for licensure as Initial Vocational Administrator - Supervisor/Director Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Cooperative Education Coordinator Experience teaching in urban schools. Terms: BTU, Group I, plus additional compensation equal to 5% of the individual's annual base salary. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. EMK has a longer school day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Agreement. The employee will be required to adhere to the work conditions, including calendar, schedule, and flexibility established by the School. Common planning time, program, department and committee meetings, and professional development occur on Wednesdays, generally between 2pm- 4pm.
