Institute for Healthcare Improvement Instructional Designer (Remote) in Boston, Massachusetts

Reporting to the Instructional Design Manager, the Instructional Designer serves as an integral member of the instructional design team. Their role, working along with SMEs is to create immersive learning using the SAM instructional design methodology. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for creating content within a standard template/theme in Articulate Storyline or Rise. This includes adhering to timelines and milestones for each course and ensuring all course content meets compliance and equity standards set by the Quality Control Team. Course development will be a combination of online, hybrid, and in-person courses with a focus on a virtual first approach in alignment with IHI?s strategy. Position Responsibilities: Instructional Design Use the SAM instructional design process to build educational courses Guide, plan, and measure the entire course life cycle from leading Savvy Starts to Rollout Ensure use of Bloom?s taxonomy for learning objectives that adhere to the HOTS and not the LOTS Build robustly interactive and immersive learning experiences which: o Are rooted in andragogy, as opposed to pedagogy, with focus on the 7 principles o Surpass our Gold Standard o Create ?a-ha? moments, situational awareness, branching scenarios, and immersive learning o Have a course layout and flow is both simplistic and logical by using IHI standard templates in Articulate Rise and Storyline o Are aesthetically pleasing (content layout, images, color palette, font) Adhere to test writing standards when composing pre-test, post-tests and knowledge checks. Manage SME relationship and conduct frequent and meaningful SME meetings Build 3D/VR course objects for medical/healthcare topics Participate in weekly ID team meetings and team building meetings with the Instructional Design Manager Adhere to course maintenance schedules for new builds, revamps, and refreshes to include: KPIs, timelines, milestones, and interactions LMS Collaborate with LMS team on all LMS matters Adhere to all guidelines for course creation (shell and all content) within the LMS Ensure proper CSS is used for all LMS course offerings Follow standards for LMS course layouts including discussion boards, bulletin boards, quizzing, weekly content, conferencing, and cohort collaboration Evaluate course feedback using appropriate Kirkpatrick levels Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Deep knowledge of adult learning theory and SAM process Ability to create effective courses in Articulate Storyline and Rise Through understanding of Bloom?s taxonomy and its application to education Ability to take a course through its entire life cycle using an agile process Ability to make decisions both independently and collaboratively as a team member knowing when additional leadership approval is needed Strong project management skills, including ability to update project management software Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate with health care, community workers, faculty, and partners at all levels Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage projects independently Ability to adapt quickly to manage the course development process and deliver completed courses on time Ability to work cross functionally across multiple disciplines within the company Strong ability to understand cultural diversity and lead accordingly Ability to work independently and manage self towards goals, while being a genuine team player Strong writing skills? ability to produce written reports that succinctly describe activities, articulates insights and challenges Commitment to IHI Values Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and the improvement of societal systems Position Qualifications: Required Bachelor?s degree or equivalent work experience Experience working in a remote environment 3-5 years instructional design experience
