Fidelity Investments Lead Investment Research Librarian in Boston, Massachusetts

Reporting to the VP, Research Services within the Investment Information Services (IIS) organization, the Lead Information Consultant’s (LIC) main responsibility is to provide dedicated research support to the Investment Professional teams within Asset Management. In this role, the Lead Information Consultant is required to fully understand the unique research needs, identify trends, seek new value-added information sources, and provides proactive research and information solutions tailored to their assigned areas of coverage.

The Lead Information Consultant must be a creative thinker and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple complex research projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Research projects may be loosely defined and require the Lead Information Consultant to filter, synthesize, and conceptualize research projects to deliver creative solutions. The research results delivered to Investment Professionals may impact the performance of funds; therefore, it is imperative that all research is accurate and delivered in a timely manner. Most importantly, the Lead Information Consultant acts as the single point of contact for all incoming sector/industry team research requests by performing “triage,” determining appropriate resources needed to best fulfill each request. The Lead Information Consultant provides day-today leadership of research projects, workload management oversight, effective communication and follow-up (i.e., project status/deliverables), and proactively promotes and shares information resources/products to ensure that all team members are fully utilizing and leveraging the independent and objective sources vetted by the Lead Information Consultant.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively provide comprehensive, timely, and accurate research solutions in response to broad-based research projects

  • Initiate and create custom research products (e.g., industry dashboards) to provide tangible, value-added solutions to the investment teams

  • Synthesize information from diverse and sometimes conflicting sources

  • Identify change agents and drivers affecting sector/industry

  • Derive implications from research data to present results in a clear and actionable format for Investment Professionals

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of assigned sector(s) to support the research process

  • Build relationships with external vendors, industry experts, and independent research providers; lead content analysis of external industry research sources/data

  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies and trends in research products and evaluate data sources for integrity and value to Fidelity Asset Management

  • Ensure knowledge sharing by partnering with the IIS teams to identify sector/industry specific content; initiate recommendations for enhancing internal applications/tools

  • Actively lead new Investment Professionals’ orientation to IIS; manage research projects for new-hire acclimation with other IIS team members

  • Cultivate strong relationships with MDRs/ CIOs and Investment Professionals within assigned coverage to better understand evolving research needs

  • Serve as primary contact for all research requests in assigned sectors

  • Perform triage for all research requests by determining appropriate skill sets and resources to best fulfill each request within assigned coverage and across other sector leads

  • Provide research project oversight, ensure accuracy of deliverables, identify best practices, mentor and coach junior staff, including formulating strategies for best approach to research problems

  • Manage training program for new information consultants within IIS

  • Provide comprehensive work performance feedback for junior staff

  • Partner with manager to outline and lead team goals and initiatives

Education and Experience

  • Required: MLS Required

  • Seven (7) or more years advanced business research experience (investment/financial services is highly desired)
