The Lead Teacher will be responsible for:

  • Developing classroom goals consistent with program goals.

  • Planning age appropriate daily activities, classroom routines and classroom design with teaching team.

  • Conducting daily activities, preparing and selecting appropriate materials, and helping to foster and facilitate play between children.

  • Overseeing the welfare, health and safety of the children in the group.

  • Ensuring that all adults carry out Center policies regarding the safety and well-being of children. Ensuring the preparation of healthy snacks, and the feeding and diapering children.

  • Developing trusting relationships with children.

  • Reporting to director unusual or extreme behavior which may indicate emotional, developmental or physical problems.

  • Working with team to develop intervention strategies for children with extra needs.

  • Documenting parent meetings, team observations, and classroom strategies. Working with Director to provide referrals for other services if necessary.

  • Developing partnerships with parents and educates families on child development issues.

  • Conducting conferences with parents/arranging for additional conferences with parents.

  • Communicating daily with parents about children's activities, and enforcing Center policies when necessary.

  • Developing with team methods for frequent informal observations of children's progress. Preparing written progress reports on each child every 6 months, infants every 3 months.

  • Ensuring the classroom has adequate staffing consistent with Department of Early Education and Care regulations regarding teacher/child ratios.

  • Working individually and with a team to bring about a positive learning and work environment. Leading weekly team meetings to plan activities and discuss individual children. Keeping notebook of meeting minutes and plans for individual children. Attending appropriate staff meetings, parent functions, advisory meetings and 20 hours of required in‑service training.

  • Supervising and preparing written performance evaluations for student interns and volunteers assigned to the group.

  • Opening or closing the Center if warranted; and may assume responsibility for the Center in the absence of the Director.

  • Purchasing classroom supplies and equipment within budgetary guidelines and in consultation with Director and team.

To qualify, you must have:

  • The level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

  • 1 to 2 years’ experience.

  • The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.

  • Excellent communication skill both orally and written.

  • Provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.

  • Department of Early Education and Care Certification required. First Aid/CPR Certified.
