Boston Public Schools Manager of Learning Operations (SY21-22) in Boston, Massachusetts

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Professional Learning POSITION OVERVIEW: The Manager of Learning Operations resides in the Office of Academics and Professional Learning (APL) within the Academics Division of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Executive Director of Professional Learning. The Managerof Learning Operations is responsible for managing the district course catalog, MassCore graduation requirements, professional learning catalogue and district curriculum to advance the mission of the Boston Public Schools. The position requires the ability to lead nimbly and manage high priority, high visibility academic projects. The Managerof Learning Operations will exhibit a unique combination of strong skills related curriculum and instruction while also having technical and analytical skills to monitor progress to strategic goals related to curriculum, courses, and MassCore graduation requirements. The Managerof Learning Operations will serve as a strategic advisor to the Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Professional Learning and Chief Academic Officer in advancing strategic approaches around curriculum and programming. RESPONSIBILITIES: Collate and organize district curricular resources Organize and maintain district course catalog and district professional development course catalog Work with the Director of Postsecondary Partnerships and Initiatives and dual enrollment partner colleges to ensure that all dual enrollment course offerings for BPS students are reflected in the district course catalog In collaboration with the Director of Online and Blended Learning, track credit recovery courses In collaboration with the Executive Director of Professional Learning, ensure that all professional learning course offerings for BPS educators are reflected in the district professional learning catalog and appropriately credited. Collaborate with the Office of Data and Accountability and Office of Instructional and Information Technology to track school schedules and alignment with District Master Schedule. Collaborate with the Office of Data and Accountability to track student progress towards graduation Gather and maintain dual enrollment course enrollment and course grade data Conduct outreach to partner colleges each semester to gather dual enrollment course enrollment data and end-of course grades Enter dual enrollment course enrollment data and end-of-course grades in the district Student Information System in a timely manner Work with high school staff to ensure accuracy of dual enrollment records in the district Student Information System Review transcripts of incoming high school students from out of country and assign credit and create Aspen transcript Connect with consulates to increase understanding of transcripts from native countries and support our BPS schools in appropriate course assignments and pathway towards graduation QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree Proficiency in Excel or Google spreadsheets Ability and demonstrated experience facilitating user centered design processes, gathering and responding to feedback from users over the course of a project. Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity. Excellent time management skills, experience balancing competing priorities, and prioritizing resources. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and think at a systems level Strong customer service focus The ability to react to requests with both flexibility and firmness (and the ability to distinguish when to use which skill). Exceptional oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with principals, teachers, colleagues, and diverse community members Track record of success in a complex organization reflecting proactive problem solving. Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in related field Analytic and data management skills, as well as extremely strong attention to detail. Ability to communicate with diverse audiences and experience with Boston, its neighborhoods and schools. Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools Terms: Managerial, C41. City of Boston Residency is Required.
