Philips Medical Science Liaison - East in Boston, Massachusetts

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a member of a field-based team of scientists who function as an extension of the Scientific Affairs organization. MSLs are responsible for developing and enhancing professional relationships with medical thought leaders involved in various phases of product development as well as key medical organizations including treatment centers of excellence and established societies and associations. MSLs provide medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provide clinical/scientific support to the company. This is a field-based position and requires professionals with established personal and scientific credibility to interact with thought leaders and centers of excellence. This MSL position will support company’s products in development and existing brands as their primary responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of cardiology as well as device-based cardiovascular treatment for CAD/PAD.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs; connecting to KOLs in academic and community centers

Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator initiated research

Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with regional and national plans

Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings

Collaborate with the Clinical Operations organization to enhance patient enrolment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies

Provide scientific and medical information updates

Provide scientific support at medical congresses

Provide timely feedback/information on emerging clinical/scientific teams and opportunities to internal stakeholders

Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives

Ensure all activities are compliant with company policies and SOPs

Requirements:

Advanced degree in clinical specialty required (MD, PhD, PharmD) and commensurate experience required.

Previous experience in an MSL, medical affairs, medical communication role preferred.

Cardiology exprerience preferred.

Demonstrated experience effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required

Expert understanding of the health care delivery system and its impact on patient care and regional medical care

Approximately 60-70% travel is required; overnight travel is required as needed

The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of cardiology as well as device-based endovascular treatment for peripheral vascular disease.

You are responsible for

  • Develop peer-level relationships with medical and scientific experts, interpret and effectively communicate relevant medical and scientific literature and present complex medical and scientific ideas fluently to internal and external audiences

  • Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator initiated researchDevelop and execute territory plans in alignment with regional and national plans

  • Attend major conventions, symposiums, advisory board programs and congresses to provide medical and scientific support to internal and external customers

  • Work cross-functionally with marketing and sales teams by providing medical and scientific expertise; maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, clinical information, and product data within an assigned therapeutic area; support and facilitate medical communications and publications; act as the main point of contact for scientists and clinicians interested in requesting

  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings

  • Collaborate with the Clinical Operations organization to enhance patient enrolment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate clinical trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies

  • Provide scientific and medical information updates

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Advanced degree in a relevant clinical specialty (MD, PhD, PharmD)

  • 2+ year of previous experience as in a MSL, medical affairs, or medical communications role preferred.

  • Solid understanding of the healthcare landscape and current trends/priorities/regulations impacting the market.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate an understanding of both the device and healthcare industries; understanding of clinical trial design and working knowledge of GCP guidelines, particularly concerning Investigator Sponsored Research

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with strong business skills/acumen

  • Proven ability to manage multiple project, set priorities and meet deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including ability to present to groups of varying sizes.

  • Proven track record of success in establishing and maintaining relationships with KOLs

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and comprehensively learn about new subject areas and environments and effectively communicate that information.

  • Ability to travel swiftly and frequently (up to 80% travel required) with overnight stays. Close proximity to airport- preferred under 1 hour or 50 miles.

This position will require you to meet all customer specific mandates such as vaccinations and or screening tests.
