Job Information

Boston University Part-time Lecturer, IP Rights and Commerce, School of Law, American Law Program in Boston, Massachusetts

The American Law Program at Boston University School of Law seeks an instructor to teach an Intellectual Property Course for the Spring 2022 semester, which begins January 18, 2022.

The course addresses the evolving landscape of proprietary claims on digital information and its communication. The course will cover the role of traditional industrial property (patents and trademarks) and of authors' rights (copyrights), as well as of internationally expanding rights in "confidential" information (trade secrets) -- which are amplified by the primacy of online "contracts" and licensing. The course will explore the extended range of quasi-proprietary interests such as privacy, publicity and "freedom of speech" and regulating factors such as consumer protection, e-commerce, competition and telecommunications policies (standards, Internet governance, Net Neutrality). While the subject matter will be examined in systemic appreciation from the perspective of U.S. and international transactions and enforcement, foreign-trained students will be encouraged to share insights on the national laws of their home countries.

Required Skills

Prior experience in practice of Intellectual Property is strongly preferred.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY THROUGH THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY HR WEBSITE.

Applicants should email a letter of interest and a resume to the Director of the American Law Program at gradint@bu.edu.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED PRIOR TO OCTOBER 25, 2021.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
