Dear Colleagues: We are happy to announce our search for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Communication Design department at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Located in the heart of Boston's cultural district, MassArt is the oldest publicly supported freestanding visual arts college in the United States. Founded in 1873, the college holds as its mission that access to a world-class art and design education isn't defined by economics or privilege. MassArt provides an inclusive, academically excellent, rigorous curriculum that turns our diverse students into practicing professionals. Graduates from both our undergraduate Communication Design program, and our graduate Dynamic Media Institute, continue to excel in a wide range of design positions nationally and internationally.

MassArt is a short walk from the world-class Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the medical district, and is surrounded by dozens of other colleges and universities, many of which we partner with.

The Communication Design department seeks an experienced design educator to become a core partner in our program. This individual should be able to teach a wide range of course in the Communication Design curriculum at all levels in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Required Minimum Qualifications: ? A minimum of a Master?s degree or a BFA in Graphic/Communication Design from an accredited university, and demonstrated experience in the teaching and practice of information and interactive design; design research; user experience (UX); data visualization; and typography. Candidates should have a record of contributing to critical discourse in these areas, and through their work demonstrate an awareness of the cultural context of the discipline. ? Given that MassArt is a multicultural environment, the department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research/creative activities, teaching, and service. ? a minimum of 8 years of professional working experience in the field of communication design or related area ? a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the college or university level cultural context of the discipline.

Other Considerations: Able to teach at all levels of communication design courses, both undergraduate and graduate Well versed in the technology currently used in the professional practice of communication design, and willing to self-educate about technology as standards and practice change Demonstrate significant professional, personal and research design experience, as well as a record of active participation in professional organizations Knowledge of contemporary theories, principles and concepts, and the history of graphic design Knowledge of CSS, html, and some coding experience preferred Experience teaching motion design Experience with departmental or administrative duties a plus
